On April 2, 2011, Deng Fei, together with 500 journalists, dozens of mainstream media in China and the China Social Welfare Foundation, launched a public offering plan for the Free Lunch Fund, proposing to donate 3 yuan per day (due to rising prices, the meal standard has been raised to 4 yuan per meal since the fall semester of 2015) to help children avoid hunger between classes and enjoy hot free lunches.

Since its establishment on April 2, 2011, as of the end of May 2021, the Free Lunch Fund has joined forces to open meals in 1,520 schools in 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, helping more than 380,000 people to eat steaming lunches.
