Today in history | China's famous geologist Feng Jinglan passed away

Feng Jinglan died on September 29, 1976. Feng Jinglan is a famous geological educator, mineral depositist and geomorphologist in China, and he is one of the important founders of China's mineral deposits. The concept of "Danxia Geomorphology" was proposed, and a lot of pioneering work was carried out in Liangguang Geology, Chuankangdian Copper Mine Geology, West Henan Placer Geology, New Tectonic Movement of the Yellow River and Heilongjiang River Basin, and Engineering Geology. His representative works include "Geology and Mining in Yunnan", "Principles of Ore Deposits" and so on.

Feng Jinglan was born on March 9, 1898 in Tanghe, Henan. In 1921, he obtained a master's degree in geology from Columbia University, a prestigious university. In 1957, he was elected as a member (academician) of the Faculty of The Chinese Academy of Sciences. He died on September 29, 1976. He was the director of the Department of Geosciences of Tsinghua University, the professor and head of the Department of Geosciences of Southwest United University, and the professor of Beijing Institute of Geology. In the 1940s, he participated in the exploration of copper mines in Sichuan, Kang and Yunnan provinces and the mineral survey along the Yunnan-Burma Railway, and conducted in-depth research on the genesis type and secondary enrichment of copper ore. On September 29, 1976, Feng Jinglan died of a sudden heart attack.
