The building itself: a combination of East and West, exquisite and elegant
Shanghai Theater Academy Huashan Road Campus, walk into the high house building at No. 630 Huashan Road, you will see a simple, quiet building, wide front door cloister, is the favorite place for students in morning classes, this is the Xiongfo West Building. It was built in the early 20th century as a club designed and built by a foreign architect. The building is a brick and wood structure, green and red brick clear water façade, gentle four-slope roof, open column corridor and building base, typical of the early modern porch architectural features. When built, it integrates the characteristics of Chinese architecture and Western architecture, reflecting the atmosphere, refinement and elegance in the details, it does not have the character characteristics of traditional Chinese garden architecture, nor does it belong to the rugged, ostentatious and full of personality of the building. Its aesthetic means are not ostentatious and noisy, but implicit and serene.
Building repair: improve function and preserve historical value
In 2000, the brick and wood structure fell into disrepair and was renovated by the Shanghai Theater Academy. At that time, this kind of early pseudo-three-story brick and wood cloister style architecture was rare in Shanghai. In view of the historical value of this architectural style and the historical significance of this building to the school, the school decided to preserve the historical memory and the artistic aesthetic value of the building itself in addition to improving the use function in the renovation, making it a landmark building of the school.
During the repair and construction, special attention is paid to the protection, respect and continuation of the craftsmanship of the old craftsmen, the flat circle arch door and window holes, the brick pier decorative patterns, and the anti-collision treatment of the wall corners are restored in accordance with the craftsmanship of the year, meticulously; the porch finds similar tiles, and after the transformation, the original building process is restored to the greatest extent, maintaining the original effect, and the replaced bluestone pillars are also installed on the spot and preserved as the remains of the old building.
The inheritance of the spirit in the retrospect of history
Originally, this building was not called Xiongfu West Building. After 1945, the "Second Factory of the Central Film Company" that returned to Shanghai moved here, and the premises here were converted to be used as a film recording studio, and many production companies lacking equipment often came here to borrow equipment to do post-production of films, for a time, it became a gathering place for Shanghai filmmakers, many famous Shanghai films dubbed, scored, and recorded songs here, until the Shanghai Theater Academy moved here in 1955.
After Mr. Xiong Foxi, who was the dean at the time, solemnly took over the compound of No. 630 Huashan Road from Mayor Chen Yi, the school was officially renamed shanghai theater academy. Today's group of drama artists and film actors are enlightened here. After the completion of the renovation in 2001, in order to commemorate the contribution of the old principal to the construction of the campus, the school decided to name the building "Xiong Fo West Building".

The building itself: A remodeled highlight of the campus center
The Duanjun Theater of Shanghai Theater Academy was originally called experimental theater, also known as "small theater". From 1956 to 1994, it was the only theater on the theater. In 1956, it was converted from an indoor gymnasium with 300 small practice theaters. The appearance is not amazing, but it is in this humble space that nearly 200 wonderful plays of various kinds have been born. From 1956 to 1994, almost all the important performances, graduation performances and internship performances of the school were born here.
The building as a whole is a curved building, glass curtain wall, the theater has 288 seats, the stage height is 7.4 meters, the width is 9.3 meters, the depth is 2.8 meters, and the hanging pole is 25, all of which are controlled by electric power. The front hall has built a central exhibition area, which can hold various painting exhibitions and design exhibitions.

Architectural Renovation: Redesign of Appearance, "Rebirth" of Interior
In 2002, the theater was renovated, designed in an arc according to the terrain, and the wall facing the campus was designed as a glass curtain wall, which was spacious and bright during the day and dazzling at night, with the outer hall on the first floor as a showroom and the second floor as a rehearsal classroom.
Before the reconstruction, the electric fans and wall lamps here were specially purchased by the Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang and donated to the teachers and students of the drama school at that time. During the renovation, the lighting, sound facilities, air conditioning, and fire protection in the building were all reborn and renamed "Duanjun Theater" after repair.

It has successfully hosted the "Chinese Shakespeare Theatre Festival" and the "International Small Theatre Theatre Festival", and has received many troupes from all over the world. The building itself: Western-style building with arched balconies
YuXuan Building is one of a group of old houses from the 20s and 30s of the last century on the campus of Shangxiao, which has its unique charm and beauty. Its predecessor was the studio of a foreign architect, with a south-facing room with a semi-circular balcony as a living room, a large open-air deck in the center of the building, a reference room, a storage room, a kitchenette and a study on the west side, and a studio and dining room to the north.
Architectural restoration: restoring the original historical appearance and retaining the design aesthetics
The building underwent several minor repairs until 2003, when the overall restoration began. The cement floor on the surface is chiseled to reveal the marble of the past; each room in the small building has a fireplace, and the appearance, materials, and brick surfaces of each fireplace are different, and the small repairs over the years have made the beauty of this old-fashioned building completely lost. During the overall restoration, the large platform ceiling was removed to reveal a beautiful plaster pattern.
The overhaul is mainly to restore the historical features of the old building. The interior moisture barrier was restored, the porcelain pieces of the carved fireplace were repaired, and the plaster thread feet and floral ornaments of the ceiling, which had been soaked with lime, were restored. The doors and windows have also been restored as before. The once closed terrace was demolished, the four steps buried in the ground were excavated, the underground moisture barrier was restored, and the terrace was restored, and the glass house was built, retaining the original design beauty of the building.
The façade of the old building was only simply cleaned, and the appendages added after removal were removed to clean the dirt. The shape, contour, color, material, surface of the virtual reality, concave and convex, ornamentation, pattern and even the environment of the old house have been painstakingly created by the designers of that year, and after decades of wind and rain washing, they have shown the unique beauty of replication, trimming the big trees on the side of the building, planting and transplanting new seedlings, so that the building and the old tree complement each other. The restored small building was named Yuxiu Lou in honor of the Chinese master of arts and sciences, Mr. Gu Yuxuan.
