Reclaimed water plant transformed into "Water Drop Park"

The fine gravel paved trail surrounds the green velvet lawn, the disc-shaped stepped pool is babbling, and there is a water regeneration device for the public to experience, and visitors can experience the water cycle through the pedal water wheel - a few days ago, the upper landscape improvement project of the reclaimed water plant of Guangzhou International Biological Island (hereinafter referred to as "Biological Island") and the Huangpu District Water System Exhibition Hall have been completed and officially opened to the public.

The Bio-Island Reclaimed Water Plant was transformed into a shared science garden "Water Drop Park" with the theme of "Water Regeneration", becoming a new node of the 6.6-kilometer Bidao Road around the lake on the Bio-Island.

Located at the southwest end of The Biological Island, Waterdrop Park has re-laid out the open park activity area and production management area by strengthening the shape of water droplets, enhancing the visual and tour experience, and customizing the art sketches and paving details in 7 areas such as waterdrop lawn and water forest fog respectively combined with the content of water culture, water science and water ecology.

"Our company is on Bio Island, and colleagues often come here for a walk. The park environment is very good, you can see the theme elements of 'water' everywhere, so that everyone can understand the charm of water and the importance of water resources while enjoying and watching. Citizen Liang Yuting said.

"There is actually a lot of work under the water drop park, which has the first fully buried reclaimed water plant in China built in 2010." Kwong Wenjie, deputy director of the Bio-Island Reclaimed Water Plant, said that the plant covers an area of about 10,000 square meters, all sewage treatment equipment and structures are underground, using ultrafiltration membrane as the core of the deep treatment process, the island's sewage collection and treatment to reach the water reuse standard, mainly used for ecological water replenishment on the island and greening in the plant, road washing, etc., to achieve the recycling of water resources.

In March 2021, Huangpu District of Guangzhou launched the construction of Waterdrop Park, transforming and upgrading the upper space of the previously closed reclaimed water plant, and creating an open and shared green activity space and a science education base for water environment governance. At the same time, the original hall of the reclaimed water plant complex building was transformed into the Huangpu District Water System Exhibition Hall.

With the theme of "Huangpu Zhishui", the Huangpu District Water System Exhibition Hall focuses on the achievements of huangpu district's water control work in recent years. The exhibition area of "Huangpu Water Vein Change" tells the "water story" of Huangpu such as the South China Sea Temple, The Fuxu Ancient Canal and the Huangpu Port with precious historical materials and pictures of the Huangpu Water System; the main part of the video and sand table vividly show the work achievements made by Huangpu District in the fields of "water security", "water environment", "water resources", "water ecology" and "water culture" in recent years. The public can also view the planning map and real-life photos of Whampoa's "Three Pulses and One Bay" Bidao through the interactive screen.

"Biological island has a hydrophilic ecological environment, but also biomedical high-tech industrial characteristics, with water ecology as the theme of science exhibition is located here, to convey to people the sponge city, circular economy of ecological environmental protection concept, very characteristic and meaningful." Li Zhougeng, a citizen who came to visit, said.

In recent years, Huangpu District and Guangzhou Development Zone have deeply integrated water management and city governance, followed the background characteristics of the water system, coordinated the governance of mountains, water, forests, fields, lakes and grass systems, and used sponge city measures to closely integrate water environment governance with the construction of a high-level nationalized and innovative urban area, from a single water management to comprehensive treatment, so that ecological benefits, economic benefits and social benefits complement each other, and out of a high-quality development road of "Huangpu Zhishui" integrating water, industry and city.

At present, the proportion of black and odorous water bodies in the built-up area of Huangpu District is 100%; all 18 black and odorous rivers have eliminated black odor, and all have reached "long-term system and long-term clearance". In the treatment of black and smelly river surges, a number of demonstration river surges in Guangzhou City, such as Wuchong, Shuanggangyong and Hongganghe, have emerged. In 2020, Huangpu District became the first national ecological civilization construction demonstration area in Guangzhou, and was rated as "excellent" in the assessment of the comprehensive implementation of the river and lake chief system in Guangzhou, ranking first in the city.
