The "Six Trainings": To understand the principles of life and expand the realm of life

author:Guoxue College

The Ming Dynasty scholar Cui Qiao's "Listening to the Songtang Mirror" has the famous "Six Ran Training" of self-cultivation. He believes that in life, we must achieve the "six natures" - to be detached, to be kind, to be clear, to be clear, to be proud and calm, and to be frustrated. In fact, everyone will have their own "Six Disciplines" in their hearts. If these "six natures" can penetrate one or two of them, the mind will reach a very high realm, and such a person will not only be able to live a good life, but also be able to take on great responsibilities.

The "Six Trainings": To understand the principles of life and expand the realm of life

  First, self-transcendence

The one who is transcendent means that when he is detached, he is pure and self-preserving.

In the fourteenth year of Jiajing (1535), at the home of Cui Milling and Xian Anyang, the local government had recently cleared out three hundred acres of guo guantian (guantian near chengguo), intending to give the tax it levied to this highly respected scholar. Cui Milling did not accept the letter, and he said in the letter: "The house left by the ancestors is not gorgeous, and it can accommodate the knees; the field is not spared, and it can be subsistence... The servant pays for one meal and one vegetable, one brown and one green, and plays the ancient "Yi" and "Analects". Ten bamboos were repaired under the pavilion. He also loved the ancients who were born, and did not slaughter chickens and ducks without sacrifice. In addition, they are all long. Self-knowledge is thin and thin, and dare to be stubborn. "Cui Milling is willing to fend for himself, live in poverty, not moved by financial gain, not tempted by material desires, which is enough to reflect his own transcendent character."

--------- alone, we must have a "quiet and far-reaching" mentality, and we must have the artistic conception of "not being insulted, idly watching the flowers blossom and fall before the court; to stay unintentional, and to follow the clouds outside the sky". Sweep away the dust of the situation, forget the mustard of the state of mind. In the idle time, calmly do what you want to do, not impetuous, not perfunctory, not to compete for glory and profit, not to seek power, and to spend your time full and interesting.

  Second, treat people with kindness

Kindness is kindness. Be kind to people, sincere, humble and tolerant, so that people have a sense of closeness. Listen to the right words and accept the opposite.

A Zen master was practicing in the mountains, and one night, in the bright moonlight, he returned to his hut after a walk on a path in the forest, and happened to encounter a thief visiting his hut.

The Zen master did not make a sound, he was afraid of alarming the thief, and he stood at the door, quietly waiting for him. The thief could not find anything valuable, and when he turned back to leave, he looked up and saw the Zen master standing in the doorway, and he immediately panicked. However, the Zen master did not scold him angrily, and looking at the thief's frightened and uneasy look, the Zen master gently walked over and said, "You have come to visit me on a long mountain road, and you can't let you go back empty-handed!" He said and took off his coat and said, "It's cold at night, so you can take this dress with you." After saying this, the Zen master draped his clothes on the thief, and the thief was overwhelmed and walked away with his head bowed. The Zen master looked at the thief's back and said with emotion, "Poor man, I wish I could send you a round of bright moon!" ”

The next day, as the warm sunlight shone brightly on the hut, the Zen master pushed open the door and opened his eyes to see that the coat draped over the thief last night was neatly stacked on the doorway. The Zen master was very happy and murmured, "I finally gave him a round of bright moon." ”

We treat people as "kind", which is the first face we face others. Dong Zhongshu said: The law of benevolence is to love people, not to love me. The law of righteousness is in the right person, not in the right person. If you want to talk about the merits of others, you must first talk about yourself, and when you want to know others, you must first have a self-knowledge.

  Third, nothing is clear

Clarity means clarity and tranquility. It means that it is quiet and far-reaching, and it is very quiet when there is nothing to do. The book "Cai Gen Tan" talks about people's leisure feelings: idle people are silent during the day, listening to several birds and melodious sounds, not feeling that the ears are rooted; the night is quiet and the sky is high, looking at a cloud light, suddenly making the eyes empty.

Master Dingzhou and Shami were walking in the courtyard when a sudden gust of wind blew up and dropped a lot of leaves from the tree, so the Zen master bent down and picked up the leaves piece by piece and put them in his pocket.

Shami on the side looked at the actions of the Dingzhou Zen master, puzzled, thinking that the Zen master was doing something stupid, and said, "Zen master! Don't pick it up, anyway tomorrow morning, we will clean. ”

Dingzhou Zen Master said disapprovingly, "You can't say it like this, cleaning, will it be clean?" If I pick up one more piece, it will make the ground a little cleaner!" ”

Shami said, "Zen Master, there are so many fallen leaves, you pick them up in front of you, and they fall behind them, how can you finish them?" ”

While picking them up, The Dingzhou Zen master said, "The fallen leaves are not only on the ground, the fallen leaves are on the ground of our hearts, I pick up the fallen leaves on the ground of my heart, and there will be a time when they are finished." ”

After hearing this, Shami finally understood what the life of a Zen person was.

——People should be good at creating a comfortable life, so that they are not impatient, not discouraged, and always quiet and peaceful. "Picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence, leisurely seeing the South Mountain" is regarded as passive and inactive, in fact, in his spare time, he will hand himself a cup of tea, sit and listen to a song that is elegant or vulgar, or swing a large pen into a little ink into treasure, so that he can stay away from bad habits and low-level tastes, and his body and mind will also be cleaned up, avoiding "nothing to do", not thinking about or doing the livelihood of those chickens and dogs.

Fourth, deal with things in a straight line

Those who have something to do, it means to cut through the iron and be decisive and resolute when there is a problem.

During the Zhengde period, Wang Tingxiang was falsely accused of his words and imprisoned, and the powerful eunuch Liu Jin had always hated Wang Tingxiang, Cui Milling and others, but Cui Milling was not afraid of Liu Jin's power, personally visited Wang Tingxiang in prison, and tried to rescue Wang Tingxiang, and finally Wang Tingxiang was released from prison. In the eighteenth year of Jiajing (1539), Cui Qiao wrote a preface to Wang Tingxiang's Yashu, in which he was praised for "destroying difficulties", that is, willing to risk his life in order to correct his mistakes. In fact, these four words are also very appropriate to use in Cui Milling's rescue of Wang Tingxiang?

------ things are cut off, when things are broken, they are broken, do not drag mud and water, and dare to make a final decision. When things are complicated, we must not mess with ourselves, we must be thoughtful and indecisive, we must be orderly, we must not be too forward-looking and backward, and we should have the wisdom of "Zhuge is only cautious in his life, and Lü Duan is not confused about major matters".

  Fifth, be proud and indifferent

Being indifferent when proud is the lofty realm of the mind. Master Koichi said in "Practicing French": Greed for money, lust for power and vanity, which make people miserable, are the three pillars of mass consciousness, and they support the unwavering world of mediocrity whenever and wherever they are. It is these three pillars that often make those who are proud forget where they are and turn to the state of happiness and sorrow.

One day, when the great scholar Bai Juyi went to visit Zen Master Torikachi Dorin, he saw Zen Master sitting by the magpie's nest, so he said, "Zen Master lives in a tree, it's too dangerous!" ”

The Zen master replied, "Taishou! Your situation is very dangerous! ”

Bai Juyi listened and said, "Xiaguan is an important official of the dynasty, what is the danger?" ”

The Zen master said, "How can we say that the fires intersect and the indulgence does not stop, so how can we say that it is not dangerous?" This means that the official arena is floating and sinking, and the danger is in front of us.

Bai Juyi seemed to have some understanding, changed the topic and asked, "How is the Dharma carelessness?" ”

The Zen master replied, "Do not do any evil, but do all good!" ”

Bai Juyi listened, thinking that the Zen master would teach his own profound truth, but it turned out to be such a common thing, and he was disappointed and said, "This is the truth that a three-year-old child knows!" ”

The Zen master said, "A three-year-old child can recite it, but an eighty-year-old man cannot." ”

Bai Juyi listened to the Zen master's words and completely changed his arrogant and arrogant attitude.

——Victory is gratifying, but don't cheer, don't forget that life is like climbing a mountain, climbing over a mountain and having higher goals waiting for you. If you attach too much importance to the past honor and immediate interests, your desires will not be put down, and your body and mind will have an extra boulder, which is bound to affect your future path.

  Sixth, frustrated and calm

When you fail, you don't have to beat your chest and stomp your feet, and you don't have to deal with it calmly. Unsatisfactory things are often eight or nine, and there is no need to be grumpy. Look at the opening point, there will be another world in front of you.

Once, a frustrated young man came to a senior monk and said in frustration, "What is the use of a person like me who is also scrupulous in his words?" ”

After hearing this, the monk did not say anything, but instructed the young monk: "The benefactor has come from afar, and boiled a pot of warm water to send it." ”

The young man drank tea made in warm water and could not drink a taste. The monk then instructed the young monk to make him a cup of tea with boiling water.

The young man looked down and saw the tea leaves sinking and floating in the cup, and a subtle fragrance spilled out. The young man felt strange.

The monk smiled and said, "If you use different water, the ups and downs of the tea leaves will be different." Brewed with warm water, the tea leaves gently float above the water, there is no sinking and floating, how can it overflow its fragrance? And the tea brewed with boiling water, brewed again and again, the tea leaves are heavy and floating, which releases the tranquility of its spring rain, the fierceness of the summer sun, the mellowness of the autumn wind, and the clarity of the winter frost. "If life is like tea, it cannot brew the fragrance of life without wind and frost."

Since ancient times, there have been many tribulations, and the reason why great people have become great people has mostly gone through various tribulations in adversity. In the face of adversity, they did not complain about the world, did not make useless sighs, but gritted their teeth, fought hard to overcome adversity with an indomitable spirit, and became heroes.

====================

The attitude of life determines the state of life. Cui Milling's "Six Ran Training" still has an important reference role for today's people to develop a transparent and understanding attitude towards life. Although "transcendent, calm, clear, indifferent, and calm" is only twelve words to read, but the so-called avenue is simple, it is easy to know and difficult to do, and knowledge and action are two ends, such as only after reading and not practicing with life, I am afraid that the truth of refinement is just a sentence, I hope that each of us can benefit from the "Six Ran Training" in practice.
