The mountain boy Mu Shan You.
Old village head. Small river.
Bluestone Bend, good for red stripe swimming.
Lying pain Yang Yin unconscious, on the riverbank, lazy cattle.
Dripping dreams dry sandbars.

tune to rivertown
a shadow clear in the creek
by cai shiping
tr. zhao yanchun
a boy tends his herds on the serene hill,
the old vill looks still,
the rill seems to trill.
the bluestone pool suits him;
why not strip for a naked swim?
he’s o’erslept in the shade, he doesn’t know;
on the bank there lies
a lazy buffalo.
o’er the shoal looms the shadow of a dream.
willow wind does soft seem;
kudzu flowers shyly beam.
earthworms wriggle, lo,
to chew the autumn of the flow.
beyond the mountains the sun will soon set;
who’ll give me light so
fish and gulls i’ll get?
