LL.M. has become a crazy gambler
Born in Shanghai, the 46-year-old wang ji has a bachelor's degree, studied law in the United Kingdom, and after graduation, worked as a lecturer at a private college in Shanghai. Due to his outstanding ability, Wang Ji has changed jobs many times, and in 2008, he was introduced to Wuxi China Resources Microelectronics Co., Ltd. as the manager of the legal department through the headhunting company, and in less than a year, he also served as the director of the legal department. The young and promising Wang Ji has a job and income envied by his peers, and should have lived a comfortable and stable life, but his fate was completely changed by a business trip.
In 2011, Wang Ji traveled to Macau on a business trip due to work, and he tested the waters at the Macau casino and won chips at the beginning of the game. Wang Ji was addicted to the casino's momentary pride, and since then he has often taken cash out of Macau to stay in the casino for two or three days. At first, Wang Ji just played in the casino lobby, and when his bet chips became larger and larger, he was invited to the private room to spend, and his mentality was even more inflated. In the private room, Wang Ji met Li Wei (pseudonym), who specializes in code washing and grading in Macau casinos. In Macau, like Li Wei, there are many people who are engaged in code washing and code release, they do not work in fixed casinos, as long as they open an account, provide guests with chips signed from various casinos, collect a certain commission from them, help convert them into cash after winning, and are responsible for recovering debts if they lose.
In January 2012, Wang Yi lost a lot of money in the Macau casino with 400,000 yuan in cash, and he was unwilling to win back a round, took the initiative to find Li Wei, borrowed chips from him to continue gambling, Li Wei learned about his job and position, and happily lent him money to buy chips, resulting in Wang Yi suddenly losing 3.5 million yuan.
1 month later, with the mentality of fighting once again, Wang Ji came to Macau again, did not bring cash, directly borrowed chips from Li Wei, and vainly hoped to rely on gambling to turn over the book. However, contrary to his wishes, he borrowed a total of more than 8 million yuan from Li Wei three times before and after, and all of them lost well.
Illegally "financing" gambling debts
After returning from Macau, Wang Ji was chased by Li Wei, and coupled with the casino's overdue repayment to charge 20% interest, the amount he had to repay was close to 10 million yuan after multiple superpositions. Li Wei came to Wuxi, where Wang Yi's company was located, to personally force debts. The panicked Wang Yi began to ask for help from his relatives and friends around him, but only raised 500,000 yuan, which was a drop in the bucket compared to the huge debt he owed. Faced with huge debts, Wang Ji trembled with fear, and he began to look for excuses to transfer company funds and accept bribes, step by step to the abyss of crime.
Taking advantage of his position in handling the company's legal disputes, Wang Ji fabricated the reason that the relevant civil litigation needed to pay a litigation deposit and other reasons, embezzled the company's funds totaling more than 7.35 million yuan three times from January to May 2012, and then called the embezzled funds to Li Wei through the account of the cooperative law firm. In addition, Wang Ji also took advantage of his position to deliberately exaggerate the costs required for related work, and through a cooperative law firm, falsely invoiced lawyers' fees to the company for settlement and settlement, and then arbitraged the company's funds by withdrawing money or spending money abroad, illegally appropriating more than 390,000 yuan of them for himself.
Blinded by gambling, he did not refuse money and goods from others, and many of his legal colleagues targeted this hobby and gave him gifts to ask him to take care of his company's legal business. In a coffee shop in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, Mr. Wei of a Shanghai law firm had a good conversation with Wang Ji, and before leaving, he handed an envelope containing 20,000 yuan in cash, which Wang Ji did not hesitate to put into his bag. Devoured by greed, he has accepted cash bribes totaling 700,000 yuan from many people.
After all, "can't escape for a lifetime"
February 7, 2013, two days later, was the warm time of Chinese New Year's Eve, supposedly a family reunion. Receiving the news that the company was facing an audit, Wang Ji was completely confused, realizing that the fact that he had embezzled the company's funds was about to be exposed, plus he still owed Li Wei more than 2 million yuan, and in the panic, he had only one thought: "Run!" Because of his long-term visa to Singapore, Wang Ji purchased the latest flight to Singapore, and in the spring festival crowd eager to return home, Wang Ji chose the opposite direction and began his fugitive life.
After the Spring Festival holiday, Wang Ji did not arrive at work on time, and his mobile phone was always turned off, and his colleagues still could not contact him after recharging his mobile phone. During the company's audit, it was found that there were three sums of money totaling more than 7.35 million yuan on the account. On February 27, Wuxi China Resources Microelectronics Co., Ltd. reported the case to the police station. The public security investigation and evidence collection found that Wang Ji was suspected of using his position to facilitate the transfer of more than 7.35 million yuan of the company's funds to the relevant personal and corporate accounts under his control. On April 9, the Binhu District People's Procuratorate of Wuxi City decided to arrest Wang, and in the same year, the Ministry of Public Security issued a red notice through Interpol.
Although the escape was successful, Wang Ji's life was not as easy as imagined. Because his visa in Singapore was only 15 days away, he hurried to Cambodia. At a time when the situation in Cambodia was complicated, the terrified Wang Ji had to apply for a visa to Vietnam. In order to escape the pursuit once and for all, he applied for a U.S. visa in Vietnam and bought a plane ticket to the United States. When the plane was transiting in Seoul, South Korea, Wang Ji sat during this period, he was accidentally robbed, his IDENTITY card, passport, etc. were all lost, he had nowhere to hide after losing his identity, congenital heart disease recurred, thinking of various encounters in a foreign country, Wang Ji could not help but leave tears of regret, coupled with the thought of his hometown and family, he began to think of ways to sneak back to China.
Through the black intermediary, Wang Ji followed the Chinese tour group from the Guangxi border secretly back to China, by stopping the car on the road all the way to the east, because he had little cash left, he could only stay in the farmhouse along the road, life was very difficult. On June 6, 2018, the Central Anti-Corruption Coordination Group's Office for International Fugitive Recovery issued the Announcement on Clues Related to Some Fugitives, revealing clues about 50 fugitives suspected of job-related crimes and economic crimes, including Wang Ji for suspected embezzlement of office. 10 days later, Wang Ji came to the Public Security Bureau of Anfu County, Jiangxi Province, and voluntarily surrendered himself.
