The talented people of the Republic of China consider themselves bodhisattvas, often quarreling with celebrities and fighting at every turn: I am a Buddha

Since ancient times, although people may not be full of buddhas, they always have a sense of awe. However, during the Republic of China period, a scholar who studied Buddhism often regarded himself as a bodhisattva, and even openly stated that he was the representative of the Buddha.

1. Abandon the army and enter the Buddha, and present yourself as a bodhisattva

Every teenager once had a dream of serving the country, and Xiong Shili was the same. He studied with his brother at an early age, and at the age of 14, he resolutely joined the army. At that time, China was being bullied by the great powers, and Xiong Shili lamented the incompetence of the Qing government, participated in many revolutionary groups, hated the great powers on the one hand, and longed for a clean day.

In 1917, Xiong Shili participated in the famous "Dharma Protection Movement". Well prepared, they still failed. Since then, Xiong Shili decided to give up his military career and study philosophy. Some people think that he is trying to avoid failure, and some people say that he is just like Mr. Lu Xun, continuing to love the country and save the country in a different way.

On the way to study philosophy, Xiong Shili also often studied Buddhism. People in the world say that people who study Buddhism are detached from things and do not want to compete with people, but Xiong Shili is definitely an exception.

Once, Chen Duxiu belittled Hubei scholars as an Anhui native in public. As a Hubei native, Xiong Shili could not bear it, he worked hard to be strong, and secretly competed with Chen Duxiu. Chen Duxiu advocated new literature, and he allowed himself to take root in the old literary path.

Of course, from this point of view, Xiong Shili also has gains and losses. He missed the opportunity to become the first advanced element, but he also became a teacher at Peking University.

After coming to Peking University, Xiong Shili's stubborn and contentious mind is still the same. Celebrities who have quarreled with him abound, Ma Yifu, Meng Wentong, Liang Shuming...

In his later years, Liang Shuming once mentioned that when he quarreled with Xiong Shili, it was really a good mood, and if he wanted to come to Buddhism, he would have to count one.

Second, quarrel for the "Buddha", old children fight

However, if you want to say that the most fierce quarrel with Xiong Shili is Feng Wenbing. Feng Wenbing, a famous novelist, people like to call his pen name "Waste Name".

He was not a student of Buddhism, but because he was a neighbor of Xiong Shili, he was affected by the whim of studying Buddhism. People who are new to research like to find someone to discuss, and Feng Wenbing is the same.

He often talked to Xiong Shili to discuss Buddhism, and at the beginning, he obeyed his words, after all, he was halfway out of the house. But after a while, when he encountered a deviation in understanding, he no longer believed Xiong Shili, but insisted on his own opinion.

When the two quarreled and had nothing to say, Feng Wenbing would say: I represent the Buddha, and if you oppose me, you are against the Buddha.
But Xiong Shili did not show weakness, and those who had studied for a few days dared to say that they represented the Buddha, so he also shouted: I am the Buddha, and you are against the Buddha!

As a result, the argument between the two is even more fruitless.

Everyone in the world says that a gentleman does not move his hands, but when it comes to Feng Wenbing and Xiong Shili, since the argument cannot be concluded, then there will be a fight. Once, their fight happened to be seen by a friend on a daily basis.

Two big men, wrestling together like children, grabbed each other by the neck, unable to utter a word. The friend just tried to pull the two men apart, but saw that they themselves let go of their hands, glanced at each other, and walked away in both directions.

Everyone thought that after the fight, the two would definitely have a cold war for a few days, if not no longer in contact. However, just the next day, Feng Wenbing and Xiong Shili walked together again, talking and laughing.

Fighting for the Buddha has become a daily routine for Feng Wenbing and Xiong Shili, which does not affect feelings and can also exercise their bodies. But such an act is not at all like a scholar, but like a child of several years old.

No wonder people call them "old children."

Third, high-ranking officials and nobles, do not show mercy

If arguing with celebrities and fighting with friends is Xiong Shili's wanton willfulness, then his disdain when facing high-ranking officials and nobles is his wind bone.

In that era, although the social status of the literati was high, in the end there was a weak scholar, where could it be compared with the magnates and officer commanders. But these so-called high-ranking officials and nobles, in xiong Shili's eyes, are worthless.

Whenever someone came to invite him out of the mountain, no matter how noble the other party's status was, no matter what kind of generous profits the other party promised, he would always be merciless and scolded away. Xu Fuguan, the red man in front of Chiang Kai-shek, was scolded by him once and did not want to see him again for the rest of his life.

It can be seen that Xiong Shili not only has the ability to quarrel, but also is a master among the scolding. It is precisely because of Xiong Shili's boldness that Peking University students admire him and dare not slack off in class.

At that time, Peking University needed to solicit students' opinions when hiring teachers. Therefore, in the classroom of Peking University, teachers rarely confront students, one is unnecessary, and the other is worried about students' collective provocation. But Xiong Shili was the exception.

As long as there is something unpleasant to look at, Xiong Shili will scold when he opens his mouth, and he will not talk about human feelings at all. What's more, if the student provoked him to be angry or often skipped class, Xiong Shili would occasionally do it.

Such a scolding and hands-on teacher, I am afraid that I can't find a second one at Peking University. But it is xiong Shili, who has a true temperament, who has won the love of students with a pure heart.
