Born on January 20, 1980 in Taipei, Taiwan, Zhang Xujiuduan began learning chess at the age of 6.5, and in 1990 he went to Japan to become lin Haifeng's inner disciple of Jiuduan, and entered the professional threshold in 1994.
In 2002, Zhang Xu won two championships, the newcomer King and the NHK Cup. From 2003 to 2006, he won consecutive titles such as ben infang, throne, celebrity, and small chess holy war, as well as the NHK Cup and Nec Cup, dominating the Japanese Go world.
In 2005, Zhang Xu won his first world championship in the 9th lg cup wufan chess final 3-1 Yu Bin. This is the last time so far that a Japanese player has won a world championship. In the same year, he defeated the Korean chess player Cho Han-seung by a 1 and 1/4 advantage to win the Asian Cup.
In 2009, Zhang Xu, who also holds five titles of celebrity, throne, tianyuan, chess sage, and ten dan, became the first player in Japan to hold five titles at the same time since the creation of the seven titles in 1977. In the same year, he achieved the four consecutive championships of the small chess holy war and the second consecutive championship of the throne battle, and after regaining the title of chess holy war from Yamashita Keigo in 2010, he became the second chess player after Zhao Zhixun to play the seven major chess grand slams.
In 2015, because his grades could not break through Zhang Xu's low ebb, he moved back to Taiwan with his family. After winning the NHK Cup in 2016, he announced his return to life in Japan. In the 2019 final of the Ahan Tongshan Cup in Japan, Zhang Xu defeated Yili Liao in the middle of the white set and defeated Fan Tingyu in the Sino-Japanese confrontation.
In 2003, Zhang Xu and Kobayashi Izumi married Kobayashi Izumi, Kobayashi Koichi and Reiko Kobayashi, while Reiko Kobayashi's father was Kitani Shi. In 2020, Zhang Xu and Xiaolin Quanmei's daughter Zhang Xincheng successfully fixed the section, which was the first four-generation chess player family in the Japanese chess academy.
When he first arrived in Japan, Zhang Xu lived a lonely and cold life. One day he retrieved a stray cat, and under his favor, the thin little black cat became more and more fat and amiable. After the birth of his daughter Zhang Xincheng, the family portrait taken by Zhang Xu's family also had the existence of a big fat black cat.
