Born in 1930, Bai Hua was originally named Chen Youhua, a native of Xinyang City, Henan Province. In middle school, he began to learn to write poetry, essays, and novels. He began publishing in 1946. In 1947, he joined the Central Plains Field Army. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1949. In 1955, he joined the Chinese Writers Association. In 1961, he was transferred to Shanghai Haiyan Film Studio as an editor and screenwriter. In 1964, he was transferred to the Wuhan Military Region Drama Troupe as a screenwriter. In 1985, he transferred to the Shanghai Writers Association and served as vice chairman.

In 2015, after the 1983 premiere of the play was dusty for many years, it was rehearsed by the director of the year and an old Artist of Beijing Renyi, Lan Tianye, and was staged at the Shanghai International Arts Festival in China.
