The action movie "The Legend of Debao of Shaolin Temple" will be launched on the video platform on February 12, the first day of the Chinese New Year. The film was directed by Tang Jili, starring Wang Baoqiang, and joined by Ni Dahong, Wu Mengda, Liu Haoran and other actors.

A few days ago, Tang Jili was interviewed by a reporter from China Youth Daily and China Youth Network. As the director of "New Year's Film", why did Tang Jili choose to challenge the creation of the Spring Festival file "NetDa"?

China Youth Daily: Why did you launch such a comedy movie as "The Legend of Debao of Shaolin Temple" at this point in time?

Tang Jili: I hope that every work is different. "Shaolin Temple" is a movie I loved to watch when I was young, and I learned martial arts from an early age and learned Shaolin martial arts. Since I became a director, many people have filmed the subject of Shaolin Temple.

Why are you making "Shaolin Temple" now? It was Wang Baoqiang who came to me and said, "Director, we haven't worked together, we've met at the film festival." I said, "Bao Qiang, your kung fu is very good, seeing that you played so well in the scenes you shot with Zhen Zidan, I really didn't know that you were so capable of fighting." "This time he came to me and said he wanted to make "Shaolin Temple", which has always been his wish.

When we decided to make this movie, we didn't want to give people the feeling that we were "fried cold rice" and were remakes. In fact, our story is completely new, not the era of "saving the Tang Dynasty". We are talking about the "Northern Zhou Dynasty Destroying Buddha", when the Shaolin Temple was destroyed, the monks fled, and finally the story of the Shaolin Temple was passed on. The character of "Debao" is a "inheritor" of the Shaolin spirit, which is completely different from the previous "Shaolin Temple".

China Youth Daily: What kind of effect do you expect to achieve when creating a new Shaolin Temple story?

Tang Jili: We hope to tell a good story, there are character growth, there are feelings, and there are also philosophies of life. Wang Baoqiang's literary drama is very strong, and the characters he plays are very vivid and vivid, so we hope to vividly show the path of becoming a Buddha of the character of Debao vividly, showing how a person like a little can learn the truth and how to grow through life experience. He has brotherly feelings, father-son feelings, and master-apprentice feelings.

When it comes to action scenes, I want to go back to basics, not the kind of unreal fights that fly around. We invited the head of Shaolin Wusheng to come and help Wang Bao strengthen the kung fu, and this drama was the kind of "fist to flesh" when filming martial arts scenes.

Many post-00s viewers may not have seen "Shaolin Temple", but shaolin contains the traditional cultural martial virtues, the spirit of filial piety, and the connotation of loving the people and the country, which is of practical significance in modern society. We want to make a positive film that meets the needs of our time.

China Youth Daily, China Youth Network: This Chinese New Year film will be broadcast entirely on the online platform, are you worried about the risks?

Tang Jili: From the very beginning, we decided to do the Spring Festival file of the big online movie, and we went straight to this goal when planning. Participating in the first Spring Festival stall under today's Internet trend is quite meaningful to me. This has to be done, and I will do it with my heart.

The whole shooting process, I did not think of it as a "network big", and the difference between it and the traditional big movie is only that the broadcast platform becomes a network, and it is enough to tell a 90-minute story, which is 30 minutes less than the 120 minutes of the traditional big movie. So I have to be more focused on storytelling and throwing away the excess. It's like playing soccer, I'm going to cut out the passing process and leave the best part of the goal.

Doing online Spring Festival stalls is a good thing, even if there is a risk, we are willing to try. We have a mature team and mature actors, and I hope that everyone will join forces to see if the audience consumption of these online platforms can break through the upper limit of this one hundred million investment. If this can make money, then the budget of online big movie investment can be increased in the future, and the level can also be improved.

China Youth Daily: Are you optimistic about this online and offline parallel "double-line Spring Festival file"? Will it become a trend?

Tang Jili: I think it should become a trend. Chinese's Spring Festival tradition can not be changed, everyone stays at home with their families for the New Year, a companion is a week or two, you will always watch movies. As long as the movie content is better, everyone spends a few dollars, you can watch it with many people at home, and you can watch it again without watching it at once. I think that in the development process of the Spring Festival consumption model, the Spring Festival stall will definitely become an important part.
