Serena Williams's wish to achieve her 24 Grand Slam titles was shattered in 2020.
Due to the unhealed Achilles tendon injury, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was forced to withdraw from the 2020 French Open before the second round of the French Open women's singles on September 30. Its opponent in this round, Pilongkova, won without a fight and directly advanced to the third round.
In the recent US Open semi-final against Azarenka, an Achilles tendon injury has become a problem for Serena. Since coming to France, she has been undergoing rehabilitation training at the Moratoglu Online School, but has not yet fully recovered.
In the second set of the first round of the French Open, Serena revealed that she was walking with a bit of a limp. Before the second round of the match against Pilongkova, Serena's injury was even more serious.
'I think it's better not to play with an injury, because if the injury worsens, it will be very serious for me." Although Serena said before the game that she was looking forward to the game, she said that "it is very difficult for her to walk at the moment", which forced Serena to follow the doctor's instructions for 4 to 6 weeks.
In Serena's career, it was the first time in 14 years that she missed a Grand Slam women's singles final in a single season.
In the Australian Open in early 2020, Serena lost to China's Jinhua Wang Rose in the third round; in the recent US Open semi-finals, Serena Lost to Azarenka; the French Open was withdrawn due to injury before the second round. The French Open withdrawal also marks the end of Serena Williams' Grand Slam journey this season.
Born in the United States in 1981, Serena Williams is often referred to as "Serena Williams" or "Serena Williams" because she is the sister of the famous general Venus Williams.
In 1995, Serena officially began her career. In January 1998, Serena entered the top 50 world rankings for the first time, and half a year later, her world rankings have reached the top 20. A year later, Serena Serena Singis defeated Martina Singis at the 1999 US Open to win her first Grand Slam singles title of her career.
In July 2000, Serena reached the final four of the singles at Wimbledon, and although she lost to her sister Dawei in the semifinals, the two sisters won the Wimbledon doubles title and once again won the Olympic women's doubles title at the Sydney Olympic Games that year.
In the 2002 French Open women's singles final, the Big and Small Sisters once again met the Grand Slam, and Serena also successfully won her second Grand Slam singles title. In the Wimbledon women's singles final in the same year, Big and Small Wei met for the third time in the Grand Slam final. Xiao Wei once again defeated her sister to win, and the prelude to her seven Wimbledon women's singles titles also began.
At the 2003 Australian Open, Serena trailed in the semi-final decider, but managed to advance 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Serena, who reached the final, met her sister again and defeated Dawei to win the championship. After consecutive victories over his own sister, Serena Williams, who was only 22 years old at the time, achieved a brilliant record of a New Year's Eve grand slam.
Between 2004 and 2008, Wei Wei was plagued by injuries and fell out of the top 100 in the world rankings. The emergence of the Russian star Sharapova also made Serena feel pressure. It was not until the 2008 US Open that Serena Williams won the championship with a record of not losing a set and was able to return to the throne of world number one.
Since the 2014 US Open, Serena williams has been unbeaten in 28 consecutive Grand Slam matches, winning four consecutive Grand Slam women's singles titles. Serena also broke the previous record for the oldest Singles title in a Grand Slam held by Navratirova.
In January 2017, the then No. 2 seed Serena Williams once again defeated the No. 13 seed Dawei in two straight sets to win her seventh Australian Open women's singles title and regain the title of world number one with 23 Grand Slam titles.
However, due to age, childbirth and injuries to her left knee, Serena has been in poor condition in recent years.
As early as 2003, Serena had surgery on her left knee. Since then, her left knee has become her "Achilles heel" and has become more serious as she ages.
In 2016, when Serena lost the US Open semi-final, she confessed to the outside world, "My left knee has always been wrong, and I can't move my legs the way I want to move." Before the start of the fourth round of the 2018 French Open, Serena Williams also retired due to injury.
After the comeback in 2018, Serena's performance continued to decline. Although Serena williams has reached the Grand Slam final four times since his comeback, he has frequently lost in the final and has never won the 24 crowns.
But Serena Williams, now 39, chose to stick with it. She said she would continue to attack the 24 Grand Slam titles once she fully recovered.
Serena said: "I like to play tennis, I like to play. Now I feel like I'm going to be able to achieve my goal right away, which is what motivates me to keep going. ”
