I want to kill two birds with one stone for my birthday
On September 13, 2011, the first day after the Mid-Autumn Festival, my x-first birthday.
Many people are busy with the big banquet guests on their birthdays. I can't be idle on my birthday either. I deliberately arranged to visit Zanzibar (Zanzibar / Abbreviated as Zanzibar) on my birthday, one is to visit the beauty of this ancient city, and the other is to stop by to see the market. It's called killing two birds with one stone. Some people like to use the idiom of "killing two birds with one stone", and I prefer the allusion of "1 stone and 2 birds".
Lie on the side of the road waiting for you to wave
Because it is the first time to set foot on the strange land of Tanzania, even if you are afraid to hold a compass, you are still looking for the north! So, the phone called a taxi and took me to the ship dock.
Taxis in Dashi city do not like empty cars running all over the streets to go to the passengers, unlike China beckoning to stop, it is lying on the side of the road waiting for you to wave! So, in Dashi, be sure to keep the phone number of a few taxi drivers in your mobile phone, and call him a few times when you want to go out! At first, it feels inconvenient, and after getting used to it, it feels more convenient than beckoning to stop, but the efficiency is not as high as the beckoning stop, and it is inevitable to waste some time.
Tanzanne is not as poor as you think
The buildings in this area of Dashi Marina are very beautiful, and some of the buildings are very grand and grand. The following photos were taken at the pier. Look at these photos and you'll see that the country isn't as poor as we thought!

Brokers only earn commissions from the company
Before the car stopped, a few brokers ran over and pulled you to buy a ferry ticket! I reflexively refuse, based on historical experience: no! i will do it by myself. Brokers also have a lot of historical experience, and they are accustomed to such an answer: no charge! don’t need you pay! Is there such a good thing? I was half-convinced! Checked the fare first: from Dashi to Zanzibar, Clipper, 20,000 shillings for local residents (foreigners with work permits) and 40,000 shillings for foreigners. Looking at the crowded ticket window, I didn't want to squeeze the tickets. After reconfirming the "no charge", I gave the passport and ticket money to a broker and asked him to buy it on his behalf. The Negro went to squeeze the tickets. But I'm also not easy: to keep an eye on this person and prevent him from "deliberately disappearing" in the crowd with my passport and ticket money!
Tickets are bought. The broker earned 2,000 shillings, paid by the shipping company.
Buy it yourself, or a broker will buy it for you, and you'll pay just as much. But the broker helps you buy, he can earn the commission of the shipping company 2000 shillings. Shipping companies are the strong side, brokers are the weak side. Not to mention that the broker also runs before and after to help you squeeze the ticket. Therefore, ask the broker to help you bring it to buy, reasonable and convenient. The thing to note, as mentioned earlier, is not to let him slip away with your passport. In addition, be sure to confirm his "no charge you" in advance to prevent him from asking you to pay hard fees after you buy the ticket!
A great way to deal with seasickness
From dar es salaam to zanzibar, Clipper, it takes 3 hours. This is my second time on a boat after an N-year hiatus!
I used to take a boat when I was in middle school and college. Yangtze River, Fengdu to Gaozhen section or Fengdu to Chongqing section, Dongfanghong, Three Gorges. I'm on a boat, I don't like to be in the cabin, I love the deck, I go to enjoy the cool breeze and the beauty along the coast, I fall in love with the stern, I go to see the waves of the engine. There has never been a history of seasickness.
Unexpectedly, today, n years later, not long after the ship started, I was seasick, the specific performance is: want to throw up, dizziness, forehead, arms and the entire upper body straight into a cold sweat.
Walking alone in the rivers and lakes, the most feared is suddenly sick! Vomiting in the VIP is also indecent, what to do?
With my profound knowledge of physics (I was 2nd in the county in physics in the college entrance examination / 3rd in the county in the total), I quickly discovered the law of the ship's rocking and found a solution to the problem of seasickness that proved to be effective afterwards.
(1) Visually, the boat has about 20 ° or so of shaking; the frequency of shaking is still very high: about 3 to 5 seconds to shake once when fast, that is, 12 to 20 times per minute.
(2) It is almost always left and right. (The shaking is mainly caused by the ups and downs created by the wind and waves, just like a car will bump on a bumpy road.) Therefore, it is also possible to shake back and forth, but this wave of my seasickness is almost always shaking left and right. )
(3) Near the side of the ship, the amplitude is the largest; close to the centerline of the boat (that is, close to the center of the left and right shaking), the amplitude is small.
As shown in the figure below, the c position near the side of the boat will be shaken to the d position; the a position near the middle line of the boat will be shaken to the b position; obviously, the c position will be shaken higher and farther!
Based on the above findings (3), it is natural to choose to sit near the centerline of the cabin, and the best position is on the centerline of the bottom cabin!
Based on the above finding (2), you have to choose the directional seat shown in Figure a below, that is, the starboard (or starboard) seat facing the boat; the direction facing (or turning back) the boat is headed, as shown in Figure b below, no good!
When you sit facing (or turning your back) in the direction of the boat (as b in the picture above), the movement of your body as the boat shakes is like a pendulum, and the heart is loaded and tired!
When you sit in the direction shown in a picture above, that is, on the starboard (or starboard) side of the boat, your body sways with the boat as if you were sitting in a rocking chair, as if you were sitting in a rocking stroller!
Sitting in a rocking chair is certainly more comfortable than hanging on the pendulum. hey!
[The above sitting direction is all aimed at the boat rocking left and right! What if the boat is rocking back and forth? Don't be stupid enough to find Beiha! 】
Ways to deal with seasickness:
First of all, find a better position according to the above principle and sit down in the correct orientation!
Second, take a deep breath! Continuous deep exhalation provides more oxygen to the brain!
Third, close your eyes! Shaking is objective, but after closing your eyes, you miss a reference in your head, and the shaking you feel is much smaller! The amount of shaking you perceive is much smaller! Many people ride roller coasters and naturally close their eyes when they suddenly and quickly slide down to the ground, which is exactly the truth!
After taking the three measures described, I was quickly liberated from seasickness, and even felt like I was sitting in a rocking chair with great enjoyment, and even hummed "Night at Military Port": the sea breeze you blow softly / the waves you shake as much as you want...
Old and strong, it seems that most of them refer to will and brain power! Hey~
How did the goods get into the island?
The islander is surrounded by water on all sides! The cargo entering the island is sent in by plane (this island has an airport) and a steamer, which is what you can imagine with your feet! But how did you get in?
After inquiry, it was mainly transported by steamship.
(1) Zanzibar is a port that accommodates large cargo ships, so there are containers coming in from all over the world, including nearby Mombasa.
(2) Cargo from dar city should be carried by special small cargo ships. A small amount of bulk cargo came in with the passenger ship. I saw some small merchants, when they were on the boat, they brought some goods, and after getting on the ship, they were concentrated on the bow and stern.
(3) There are Ro-Ro ships (two-storey cabins). The first floor carries a car (no truck is seen), and the second floor carries passengers. I saw it with my own eyes on the sea road back to dar city, but unfortunately the camera did not have a battery at that time, and I did not take pictures.
(4) There is an airport in Zanzibar, so it is inferred that some cargo is flying in.
The two main islands of Zanzibar and Pemba and nearby small islands have a total area of 2,657 square kilometers and a population of about 800,000. For those who want to develop the Tanzanese market, there should be interest in how goods enter and leave Zanzibar. hehe!
Tour the market
Zanzibar - Stone Town Map ́ Due to time constraints, I only visited the stone town of Zanzibar this time, and did not go to those famous attractions such as kendwa and nungwi.
On the morning of September 14, I spent more than 3 hours strolling through Stone Town, targeting the scenery and markets.
Stone Town, with its many ancient buildings, looks unique.
Look at the market...
Although I look at the market in passing, I have never forgotten that there is still this goal. Whenever I saw grocery stores and wholesale markets, I would break into them to "spy on economic intelligence." I indicated to look at x products and y products. Almost all the shopkeepers thought I was going to buy it. I carefully asked about the price (including the purchase price), sales volume, customer opinion, and then told him that I was here to do market research, not to buy! The locals saw that I did not buy, and they were not angry, and some even took the initiative to introduce me to more market conditions. The people of Tanzania are so cute!
In one shop, the owner deliberately mixed swahili (Swahili) in English, deliberately confusing me and making people standing on the sidelines steal music. They were just joking with me in good faith.
Appendix: Introduction to Zanzibar
(Source: From the Internet)
Zanzibar, a coastal city in the Indian Ocean on an island in eastern Tanzania, is a new tourist hotspot on the rise. The island is a major feature of traditional African black, Islamic and Indian cultures. "Zanzibar" means "black coast" in Arabic. Located in the middle of the west coast of Zanzibar, the Shangani Peninsula was once the economic and trade center of the Zanzibar Empire.
