Möngke was the grandson of Genghis Khan, the eldest son of Torre, and the older brother of Kublai Khan. He participated in the Western Expedition, advocated the destruction of the Southern Song Dynasty and Dali, and repeatedly built Qigong, so he won the Position of Mongol Khan.
After ascending the throne, Möngke was invincible and won countless wars large and small, but he was defeated in Diaoyu City. Why would a very heroic man lose in Diaoyu City? There are two reasons for this.

1. The geographical environment is unfavorable to the Mongolian army
The geographical environment of Diaoyu City is unfavorable to the Mongolian army, why do you say so? Because the Diaoyu City is in Chongqing, we know that Chongqing is a mountain city, and the mountain road is rugged and difficult to travel, and the Mongolian army is good at riding a horse, so the mountain road will not be as flat and easy as the plains and grasslands.
Of course, the Mongolian army was very powerful in the grassland, but when it came to the mountain road, the advantages of the cavalry could not be shown, and the Diaoyu City and the Jialing River flowed through, and it was also difficult for the cavalry to cross the river.
The mountain of Diaoyu City is more than 300 meters above sea level, which does not seem to be high for our current people, but for ancient people, such a high mountain, they are difficult to conquer.
At that time, the Southern Song Army was defending the city on the mountain, and the Mongolian army attacked up the mountain, and the difficulty was much higher than that of the Southern Song Army, which is what we often say, the mountains are easy to defend and difficult to attack.
The Mongolian army is accustomed to the wide terrain environment of the grassland, and when it suddenly comes to the mountainous area, it will be very unaccustomed and unfamiliar with the terrain, so that before the war has begun, the Mongolian army will lose half of it first.
2. Military adjustments of the Southern Song Dynasty
The military adjustment of the Southern Song Dynasty strengthened the military strength of the southern Song Dynasty frontier. So how did Diaoyu City become the border of the Southern Song Dynasty? Indeed, we know that the northern part of the Southern Song Dynasty territory is in the area south of the Huai River, so Diaoyu City belongs to the northern territory.
Moreover, the Southern Song Dynasty has always been invaded by ethnic minority regimes such as Jin Yuan, so the Southern Song Dynasty has strengthened the military defense of the north. The Southern Song Dynasty established a mountain city defense system in Sichuan, building a city in the lofty mountains and mountains, taking care of each other, and Diaoyu City was the core and strongest fortress of this system.
Moreover, the Southern Song Dynasty also sent the famous generals Wang Jian and Zhang Jue to guard the Diaoyu City at this time, which made the strength and weakness of the Southern Song Army and the Mongolian Army transform.
It is obvious that the Southern Song Army in Diaoyu City is stronger than the strength of the Mongolian Army, but Meng Ge did not understand this change, still believed that the strength of the Mongolian Army was stronger than the strength of the Southern Song Army, and launched a fierce attack on the Diaoyu City, and the result was that it could not be attacked for a long time.
Meng Ge was a little anxious, so he ascended to check the situation inside the Diaoyu City, but was unexpectedly hit by the Southern Song Army, and Meng Ge was seriously wounded and died, and the Mongolian army was defeated in this battle.
Judging from the defeat of the Mongolian army in Diaoyu City, the Mongolian army was somewhat careless, they did not understand the terrain of Diaoyu City, and the defense system of the Southern Song Army was not clear, and they attacked the Southern Song Dynasty according to the original strategy, and failure was inevitable.
Only when the two armies confronted each other and knew each other could they win every battle, but the Mongolian army was carried away by the previous victories, and the result was a bitter lesson.
This defeat of the Mongolian army also tells us that before doing anything, we must base ourselves on the situation at that time, and not just consider the previous situation, because the situation will change at any time.
