In the late Eastern Wu Dynasty, Sun Jun, Sun Lin's life, why didn't Sun Jun and Sun Lin establish themselves as emperors?

author:Historic Mountain Villa

In the first year of the Eastern Wu Shenfeng (252 AD), Sun Quan the Great of Wu died at the age of 71. In the midst of mourning, the young lord Sun Liang took the throne, and the great general Zhuge Ke was ordered by Sun Quan to assist the young emperor. Zhuge Ke was self-conscious and was soon murdered by Emperor Sun Jun. After that, Sun Jun and Sun Lin brothers successively took charge of the authority of Eastern Wu, and their arrogance was arrogant for a while. Their monopoly had a major impact on the political situation in Eastern Wu.

In the late Eastern Wu Dynasty, Sun Jun, Sun Lin's life, why didn't Sun Jun and Sun Lin establish themselves as emperors?

The closest relatives of the clan are punished with the removal of the courtiers

Sun Junziyuan was the great-grandson of Sun Jian's younger brother Sun Jing, who was good at riding and shooting at a young age, shrewd and courageous, and had the courage to make decisions. In the last year of Sun Quan's reign, he was transferred to the post of Lieutenant of Wuwei and Shizhong (侍中). On the verge of Sun Quan's death, Sun Jun accepted the edict to assist in the state administration, and concurrently served as the general of Wu Wei and was given the title of Marquis of Duxiang.

After Sun Quan's death, the general Zhuge Ke took power. At the beginning of his auxiliary administration, he also did several things that conformed to the people's will, and for a time he won praise from the government and the public. In the second year of Jianxing (253 AD), he led an army to repulse Cao Wei's three-way soldiers and horses, annihilating tens of thousands of enemies. All these things made Zhuge Ke gradually get carried away, and he thought that the Northern Expedition was a matter of stilts. Therefore, in spite of the fatigue of the country and the people's difficulties, he categorically rejected the suggestions of other ministers to rest the troops and raise the people, and contrary to the established national policy, he sent the country to dispatch 200,000 troops to the Northern Expedition to Cao Wei. As a result, nothing was achieved, the soldiers suffered heavy casualties, and the loss of materials and equipment was innumerable, and complaints were rife.

Zhuge Ke's defeat provided Sun Jun with an opportunity. Taking advantage of the resentment of the people and the suspicion of the people to be jealous of Zhuge Ke, he falsely accused Zhuge Ke of plotting rebellion, and plotted with the young lord Sun Liang to plot against Zhuge Ke. They pretended to feast on Zhuge Ke, invited others to the palace, and ambushed the soldiers in the tent beforehand to prepare. Sun Jun personally welcomed Zhuge Ke into a tent and sat down to feast and drink. During the meal, he pretended to go to the toilet, took off his robe, walked out in a short robe, and announced the edict to arrest Zhuge Ke. Zhuge Ke was caught off guard and killed by Sun Jun. Sun Jun thus seized great power, was promoted to the rank of Grand General of the Prime Minister, inspector of all military affairs and etiquette inside and outside the country, and was promoted to the title of Marquis of Fuchun.

Sun Jun has never had a good reputation, is proud and sinister, tortures and killings indiscriminately, and the people are talking about it. He also fornicated with the palace maid and had an affair with the princess Lu Ban, which caused many people to be dissatisfied. In the first year of Wufeng (254 AD), Sun Ying, the Marquis of Wu, murdered Sun Jun, but committed suicide because the matter was leaked. The following year, envoys from the State of Shu came to visit, and the generals Sun Yi, Zhang Yi, Lin Ke, and others prepared to take advantage of the meeting to kill Sun Jun. But unfortunately, the matter was revealed again, Sun Yi and others committed suicide, and dozens of people were implicated and died, along with Princess Lu Yu. Although these several plans were unsuccessful, Sun Jun also felt his own situation and worried all day.

In this year, the Wei generals Wu Shangjian and Wen Qin led a rebellion and fought against the Wei army. Sun Jun led the hussar general Lü Zhao, the general Liu Zan, to attack Shouchun, but when Wen Qin's army was defeated, Wen Qin surrendered to the state of Wu, and the Wu army returned. The following year, Wen Qin persuaded Sun Jun to conquer the State of Wei, and Sun Jun sent Wen Qin and Lü Zhao, the general Liu Lu (劉纂) the general of Cheqi, the general Zhu Yi of Zhennan , and the former general Tang Zhi (唐咨) to lead an army from Jiangdu into the Huai River and Surabaya by waterway in order to capture Qingzhou and Xuzhou. Sun Jun and the general Teng Yin came to Stone City, set up wine and food for the soldiers by the way, and led more than 100 people in their entourage into the Lü Zhao military camp. According to Lü's command, the ranks of soldiers were in order, and Sun Jun was very disgusted when he saw it, saying that his heart was in pain and left. Soon, Sun Jun dreamed of being hit by Zhuge Ke and died of fear of illness at the age of 38.

Before Sun Jun died, he entrusted the aftermath to his cousin Sun Lin. Sun Lin zi tong, and Sun Jun's grandfather. He was first appointed as a general, and after Sun Jun's death, he served as a general of wuwei in charge of all military affairs inside and outside the country, and acted as an agent for the affairs of the imperial court.

Arrogance and extravagance, dictatorship and abrogation

Sun Lin's stepbrother took power, which caused dissatisfaction among other ministers. Lü Zhi bore the brunt of this, and jointly signed a joint name with the governors to recommend Teng Yin as a chancellor, in an attempt to limit Sun Qi's power. Sun Sun Lin took a tit-for-tat confrontation and replaced Teng Yin as the Grand Sima and replaced Lü Dai in Wuchang. Lü returned with his troops, sent someone to report to ZhiYiyin, and prepared to unite and abolish Sun Lin.

After Sun Lin learned of this, he sent his cousin Sun Wei to Jiangdu to meet Lü Zhao, and sent Zhongshi to issue an edict ordering Wen Qin, Liu Lu, Tang Zhi, and others to join forces to attack Lü Zhao. He also sent the generals Hua Rong (華融) and Zhongshu (中書丞丁晏) to inform Him that Lü Zheng had been besieged, and signaled that Knee Yin should hurry to Wuchang to take up his post. Teng Yin felt that a catastrophe was imminent, so he detained Hua Rong and Ding Yan and commanded the army to defend themselves, in an attempt to save himself. He summoned the general Yang Chong, the general Sun Zhi, told them that Sun Lin was in trouble, and forced Hua Rong and others to write letters refuting Sun Lin. Sun Lin did not accept it, and Shang song zhang accused Teng Yin of plotting rebellion. He also used the method of co-opting and seducing, promising the general Liu Chengjin a knighthood and instructing him to lead his soldiers and horses to attack Teng Yin quickly. At this time, Teng Yin was having difficulty riding a tiger, so he broke the cauldron and forced Hua Rong and others to instruct him to summon the army under the false emperor's edict. Hua Rong and the others did not comply, and Teng Yin sent someone to kill them all. Someone advised Teng Yin to lead his troops to canglongmen, and when the generals saw that Teng Yin was coming, they would definitely leave Sun Lin and return to Teng Yin. At that time, it was more than halfway through the night, teng Yin thought that he had made an agreement with Lü Zhao, and it was really difficult to send troops to besiege the palace, so he issued an order to rectify the army, saying that Lü Zhu was almost there, so the soldiers were willing to fight for him and did not disperse. At that time, there was a strong wind, and until dawn, Lü Zhu did not come. Sun Yan's army launched a siege, and finally killed Teng Yin and dozens of his generals, and destroyed the three tribes of Teng Yin.

In the late Eastern Wu Dynasty, Sun Jun, Sun Lin's life, why didn't Sun Jun and Sun Lin establish themselves as emperors?

After the elimination of Teng Yin, Sun Lin was promoted to the rank of Grand General, False Festival, and was given the title of Marquis of Yongning, arrogant and arrogant, and repeatedly did disrespectful things. At first, Sun Jun's cousin Sun Wei participated in the plot to kill Zhuge Ke, but afterwards Sun Jun treated him kindly, making him a right general, and Jie Gai (a favored treatment of the emperor's subordinates) allowed him to participate in the discussion of various government affairs. Soon, friction arose between Sun Lin and Sun Wei, who was very angry and conspired with the general Wang Xiang to kill Sun Lin. When Sun Lin learned the news, he killed Wang Xiang, and Sun Wei also committed suicide by taking poison. After these several incidents, Sun Lin gradually eliminated his political enemies and consolidated his position, and he became more arbitrary.

After some days, the Wei general Zhuge Shi occupied Shouchun to rebel, guarded the city, and asked Wu and Guo for help. Wu Guo sent Wen Qin, Tang Zhi, Quan Ji and others to lead an army of 30,000 to rescue them. The Wei general Wang Ji besieged Zhuge Zhi and Wen Qin and broke through into the city. Wei guo exhausted and sent more than 200,000 troops to increase the siege of Zhuge Zhi. Zhu Yi led 30,000 people to garrison Anfeng City as a wing of Wen Qin. The Wei state of Yanzhou assassinated Shi Zhoutai and led an army to Yangyuan to defend against Zhu Yi, who retreated in defeat and was pursued by Zhou Tai, killing and wounding 2,000 people. Sun Lin then went all out to recruit soldiers and garrison wats, and then sent Zhu Yi to lead the generals Ding Feng and Li Fei and 50,000 others to attack the State of Wei and keep the military supplies in Dulu. Zhu Yi led his army to garrison Li Pul, sent the generals Ren Du, Zhang Zhen and others to recruit 6,000 daredevils, built a pontoon bridge 6 miles west of Li Pul to cross the water at night, and built a half-moon-shaped camp, but it was immediately broken by the army led by Shi Bao and Zhou Tai, the wei overseer, and the Wu army was forced to retreat and occupy the commanding heights. Then, Zhu Yi revived his army and besieged Gomu Castle. Shi Bao, Zhou Tai, and others led the Wei army to attack Zhu Yi, and Zhu Yi's army was defeated and retreated. Hu Lie, the Wei state taishan dog shou, attacked The capital from a hidden path with 5,000 odd soldiers, burning zhu Yi's military supplies and grass. Sun Lin sent 20,000 troops to support Zhu Yi and ordered Zhu Yi to fight to the death, but Zhu Yi refused. Sun Lin killed Zhu Yi in the wok and sent his younger brother Sun En to rescue him, but when zhuge had failed, he returned without success. Sun Lin was not able to save Zhuge Shi in this battle, but instead lost his army and killed famous generals, and no one did not resent.

At this time, The Wu lord Sun Liang began to personally handle government affairs, often reprimanding and interrogating Sun Lin, who was very panicked. After he returned to Jianye, he built a house south of the Suzaku Bridge and assigned his younger brother The Weiyuan general Sun Zhu to enter the Cangshui Gate on duty. His younger brothers Sun En, the Wuwei general Sun En, the partial general Sun Gan, and the Changshui lieutenant Sun Chuang were stationed in various barracks, hoping to control the government and consolidate their positions of power. Sun Liang resented Sun Lin in his heart, so he pursued the reason for the murder of Princess Lu Yu, blamed Zhu Xiong, the governor of Hulin, and Zhu Xiong's younger brother Zhu Bao for not correcting Sun Jun's behavior at that time, and ordered Ding Feng to kill Zhu Xiong in Hulin and Zhu Feng in Jianye. Sun Lin advised to stop it, but it was not allowed. The contradiction between Sun Liang and Sun Lin was on the verge of erupting. In order to stabilize the regime, Sun Liang immediately consulted with the princess Lu Ban, Taichang Quanshang, and the general Liu Cheng, and wanted to kill Sun Lin. Sun Liang's concubine, the daughter of Sun Lin's cousin, told Sun Lin about this plan. Sun Lin led his men to attack and kill Quan Shang at night, sent his brother Sun En to kill Liu Cheng outside the Cangshui Gate, and then besieged the palace. He sent Guanglu Xun Mengzong to the Zong Temple to pray to the ancestral gods and to depose Sun Liang. Then he summoned the officials of various departments to discuss: "The young lord indulged in nonsense, and could not let him be on the throne and inherit the cause of his ancestors." I have already told the Emperor to abolish him. If the ministers disagree, please ask for a different view. The ministers were all shocked and spoke in agreement. Shangshu Huan Yi refused to sign, and Sun Lin killed him in a fit of rage. Therefore, Sun Lin instructed Zhongshu Lang Li Chong to seize Sun Liang's imperial seal and distribute Sun Liang's guilt to all parts of the country. Shi Zheng, a dianjun, persuaded Sun Lin to recruit Sun Xiuli, the prince of Lang, as emperor. Sun Lin agreed, and sent Zongzheng Sun Kai to submit a letter to Sun Xiu, counting Sun Liang's guilt, and asking Sun Xiu to take the throne. Sun Lin also sent the general Sun Yu to send Sun Liang to fengguo and relocate Princess Luban to Yuzhang (豫章, in modern Nanchang, Jiangxi). This happened in the third year of the Taiping Dynasty (258 AD).

After that, Sun Lin completely controlled the central power, and he became even more wanton, even sending people to burn down the Wuzixu Temple at the head of the bridge, destroy the Buddhist temple, and behead the Taoists. After Sun Xiu ascended the throne, Sun Lin claimed to be a wild subject. He pretended to be incompetent and asked for a tribute. Sun Xiu knew his thoughts, so he praised his merits and made him a minister of state and a pastor of Jingzhou. Sun Lin's younger brothers also gained power, and there were five people in the family who were enfeoffed, all of whom were in charge of the emperor's personal soldiers, and their power exceeded that of the monarch. There had never been such a thing among the courtiers of the State of Wu.

Evil is full of shameful ends

Sun Lin's stubbornness caused Dissatisfaction from Sun Xiu at the beginning, and he wanted to get rid of Sun Lin at the beginning of his reign, but it was temporarily delayed due to immaturity. But the arrival of this day is an inevitable thing sooner or later.

One day, Sun Lin brought ox wine into the offering to Sun Xiu, but Sun Xiu did not accept it, so he took it to the left general Zhang Bu. After drinking for a while, Sun Lin complained: "When I first deposed the Young Lord, many people advised me to establish myself as emperor. I thought the emperor was wise, so I greeted him. Today's emperor cannot stand without me, but now that I have been refused to offer a wine ceremony, it seems that I am no different from other ministers in the emperor's heart, and I should make another plan. Zhang Bu told Sun Xiu these words, and Sun Xiu did not show his face after listening to them. He was afraid that Sun Lin would be in turmoil, so he gave him many lenient gifts, and then added Sun En as a servant to review the official documents with Sun Lin. Someone accused Sun Lin of harboring resentment, insulting the emperor, wanting to rebel, and so on, and Sun Xiu arrested this person and handed him over to Sun Lin to show his trust in Sun Lin. Sun Lin killed this person, which made her even more frightened. He asked Mengzong to intercede and asked to go to Wuchang to garrison. Sun Xiu allowed him and ordered more than 10,000 elite soldiers of the middle battalion commanded by Sun Lin to accompany him on the ship. The weapons of the arsenal extracted were also given to him. The general Wei Miao advised Sun Xiu: "Sun Lintun is bound to be in turmoil in other places. Shi Shuo, a martial guard, also reported: "Sun Lin is ready to rebel. Sun Xiu secretly asked Zhang Bu, and Zhang Bu and Ding Feng discussed and prepared to kill Sun Lin at the Lari gathering.

On the seventh day of the first month of December in the first year of Yong'an (258 AD), there was a folk song in Jianye City that said that the sacrifice of La Ri would take place, and Sun Lin was displeased when he heard it. That night, the wind uprooted the trees and lifted the sand and stones, and Sun Lin was even more panicked. On the eighth day of the first month, Sun Lin pretended to be ill, and Sun Xiu insisted on inviting him and sent more than ten batches of emissaries. Sun Lin was forced to go and prepared to go, but everyone stopped him. Sun Lin said: "The state has repeatedly issued edicts, and there is no way to shirk it, but you can first arrange the army and ask the government to pretend to be on fire, so that I can return immediately." So I went. Immediately, a fire broke out in the palace, and Sun Lin asked to go back, and Sun Xiu said: "There are naturally many soldiers outside, and there is no need to bother the minister to go back personally." Sun Lin insisted on returning to the house and got up to leave the table. Ding Feng and Zhang Bu signaled the left and right samurai to tie up Sun Lin. Sun Lin prostrated his head and said, "I am willing to exile Jiaozhou." Sun Xiu said, "Why didn't you exile Teng Yin and Lü Zhao, but kill them?" Sun Lin hurriedly added, "I am willing not to serve as a slave to the government." Sun Xiu added, "Why don't you enslave Teng Yin and Lü Zhao?" Then he beheaded Sun Lin. He also ordered his men to take Sun Lin's head and say, "Anyone who has conspired with Sun Lin can be exonerated." "There were more than 5,000 people who laid down their arms. Sun Min took a boat to prepare to flee north and surrender to the State of Wei, but was chased and killed. Then, Sun Xiu exterminated the Sun Lin family, had Sun Jun's coffin excavated, collected his seal silk, cut off part of his coffin, and buried it, because he killed Princess Lu Yu and others.

Sun Lin was 28 years old at the time of his death. Sun Xiu was ashamed to be of the same clan as Sun Jun and Sun Lin, so he specially cut off their records in the family register and called them Gu Jun and Gu Lin.

"Throughout the ages, heroes are not found, Sun Zhongmou is in charge." How generously written this poem is! It's just a pity that after Sun Quan passed away, Wu Guo's national conditions were so unbearable. After sun jun and sun lin brothers eliminated the powerful minister Zhuge Ke, they should have done something beneficial to the country and the people, but unfortunately both brothers were faint and arrogant. Under their rule, the state of Wu not only did not have a new atmosphere, but further weakened. It cannot be said that the two actually became Sun Wu's sinners. The first dynasty of the Six Dynasties of Jiankang finally heard the sound of the cold winter.
