New Nendo: Transforms bulky H-shaped steel into a playful children's rocking chair

Following the design of a marble "swing" table for Marsotto edizioni, nendo designed a children's rocking chair for Italian furniture brand Kartell. Founded in 1949, the cartel started with the manufacture of experimental gear and now "switched" to plastic furniture and accessories. Their works are often versatile, convenient and durable, brightly colored, spirited, transparent throughout, with strange shapes, and unique beauty.

This children's rocking chair named "h-horse" is inspired by "h-shaped steel", because its cross-section is the same as the letter h, and its advantage is that the cross-sectional area allocation is more optimized, the strength-to-weight ratio is more reasonable, the bearing capacity is strong, and it is mostly used in the manufacture of large buildings, bridges and ships.

What nendo does is deform h to ensure its functionality and load carrying capacity even with minimal material. It is transformed into the shape of a pony, playful and cute, and the transparency of the plastic makes it look more simple and beautiful. The work will also be on display at Milan Design Week 2016.
