Morphologically medium-sized noisy partridge, 22 to 26 cm long. The whole is predominantly greyish brown , with nearly black eyes , brown throat to thorax , and brownish red under the lower abdomen and subtail coverts. The base of the primary flight feathers is yellowish and the feathers are blue-gray, forming a large area of orange above and a grayish-blue color of the outer edge when the wings are converged. The tail feathers are white at the ends, the central tail feathers are grayish yellow, and the outer tail feathers have a gray inner margin and an outer margin yellowish. The eyes are yellowish white, the mouth is black, and the feet are tan.
Its habitats are woodlands, forest edges, shrublands and grasslands above 1500 meters above sea level in mountainous areas. Sexually active, often gregarious, feeding on insects in shrubs or on the ground, as well as berries and seeds. Joyful chirping, loud and changeable. The breeding season is from April to July, and the nest is in the bush. Endemic to Chinese birds. Resident birds. Seen at the top of Mount Taishan. This is a new record in recent years, originally distributed in central and southern China, which is far away from the region, and is a species in the wild bird trade, so the original source of this species should be escape or release.
