The Guangxi people's century-long project, the Pinglu Canal, has made new progress! Recently, the first environmental impact assessment of the Pinglu Canal began to be announced. The publicity of environmental impact assessment is the premise of the construction of the project.

The Pinglu Canal directly connects the Xijiang and Qinjiang river systems, and the upper reaches are connected with the Xijiang Shipping Trunk Line, known as the "Golden Waterway", west through the Yongjiang River to Nanning, Baise, Chongzuo and Yunnan, east through the Yujiang River to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, north through the Qianjiang, Liujiang, Hongshui and Duliujiang to Liuzhou, Laibin and Guizhou, south from Qinzhou to the sea. The middle and upper reaches of the Xijiang Shipping Trunk Line go to sea from Qinzhou Port through the Pinglu Canal, which will be greatly shortened compared with the current voyage from the Pearl River Delta port through Wuzhou, which is a shortcut for Guangxi and even the vast western region to go to sea on inland rivers.
The planning objectives of the Pinglu Canal are divided into two phases:
By 2035, build 4 double-line navigable cascade hubs and 140 km of high-grade waterways, complete the reconstruction of cross-, barrage and riverside buildings that hinder navigation, make the Pinglu Canal reach class I waterways and take into account the navigation standards of 5,000-ton ships, the one-way passage capacity of navigation buildings will reach about 85 million tons / year, the capacity of the jianghai intermodal transport port area will reach about 115 million tons / year, the smooth and efficient river-sea intermodal transport system will be gradually constructed, shipping and water supply will complement each other, and the shortage of freshwater resources around the Beibu Gulf will be effectively solved. The benefits of comprehensive utilization of water resources have been brought into full play.
By 2050, depending on the expansion of the Pearl River water transport network and the needs of the economic and social development of the hinterland, the construction of new navigable buildings will be carried out, the efficiency of river-sea intermodal transport will be further improved, the level of wisdom and standardization will be further improved, and the Pinglu Canal river-sea intermodal transport system with strong guarantee, smooth connection, efficient operation and high-quality service will be fully completed, which will have a significant driving effect on the economic and social development and development and opening up of the western region, and the Pinglu Canal shipping system will become an indispensable and important component of the construction of the new land-sea corridor in the western region and the all-round opening up of the country.
Plan scope
The planning area is the mouth of the Pingtang River in the Xijin Reservoir District of the main stream of the Xijiang River, tracing the Shaping River up across the watershed, down the Jiuzhou River to Luwu, and flowing into the sea through the trunk of the Qinjiang River to Qinzhou Port, with a total length of about 140 km.
The main planning content
(1) Route planning: The Pinglu Canal line starts from the pingtang river mouth in the xijin water conservancy hub reservoir area in the north, crosses the watershed of the Shaping River and the tributary of the Qinjiang River, the Jiuzhou River, and enters the waters of Qinzhou Port in beibu Bay through the land house along the main stream of the Qinjiang River. According to the natural conditions and characteristics of each section along the canal, the overall route is divided into four sections, namely the Shaping River section, the watershed section, the main stream section of the Qin River and the estuary section.
(2) Cascade planning: According to the natural conditions and urban distribution along the canal, the cascade of the planning stage adopts a four-level layout scheme, and the direction from the side of the Yujiang River to the estuary is Madaotou Hub, Qishiyuan Hub, Datianping Hub, and Youth Sluice Hub.
Previously, Guangxi had issued the "Notice on Prohibiting New Construction Projects and Moving In Population within the Scope of Land Acquisition for the Construction of the New Land-Sea Corridor (Pinglu) Canal Project in the Western Region". It seems that the Pinglu Canal is getting closer and closer to the start of construction.
