Nandu News reporter Li Rong said, "We can't wait, if we don't do (transplant surgery), we will die!" "On the one hand, the fierce new crown pneumonia epidemic, on the other hand, patients who are waiting for organ transplantation, the same life, the same to save."
The National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases and the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen (the Second Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology) (hereinafter referred to as the Third Hospital of Shenzhen) are the only designated hospitals in Shenzhen to receive patients diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia, and the only hospital in Shenzhen with liver and kidney transplant qualifications. Since the first case of new crown pneumonia in Shenzhen was admitted on January 11, the three hospitals in Shenzhen have completed 18 liver transplants, 2 kidney transplants, and 3 donated surgeries.
Getting an organ transplant right away is the only hope for these patients
In the special period of fighting the new crown pneumonia epidemic, major organ transplant departments across the country have successively reduced or even stopped transplant surgery. However, in view of the critical condition of patients waiting for transplantation, the Three Hospitals of Shenzhen have taken scientific and effective protective measures and become one of the few organ transplant centers in The country to continue to carry out surgery during the epidemic.
Mr. Cheng (pseudonym), a 34-year-old with more than 20 years of history of hepatitis B, has been receiving treatment at a hospital near his home since he was diagnosed with cirrhosis in January. After several artificial liver treatments, there was no effect. On February 5, Mr. Cheng lost consciousness due to acute liver failure and developed a state of liver coma, which was in danger of life at any time.
"We can't wait, we'll die without (transplantation)!" Mr. Cheng's father said that he knew that the Shenzhen Third Hospital was treating patients diagnosed with new crown pneumonia, and although he was a little afraid in his heart, he was more worried about his son's situation. At the same time, he also has confidence in the protection of the third hospital of the city.
As a result, Mr. Cheng was urgently transferred to the Third Hospital of the City. Fortunately, after various matches of liver transplantation, Mr. Cheng quickly matched to a suitable donor of liver origin. On February 6, Mr. Cheng underwent an 11-hour liver transplant operation, which went smoothly. When I met Mr. Cheng on February 25, he could already walk very freely.
Do a good job in the prevention and control of hospital infection: set up special icu and special elevators
In Hubei, there has been a situation where doctors are infected during surgery, so doing a good job in hospital infection prevention and control is a top priority.
"This is another form of perseverance and retrograde during the pandemic." Jiang Nan, director of the liver transplant department of the Third Hospital of Shenzhen, said that as soon as the epidemic prevention alarm sounded, the hospital required that a "checkpoint" must be set up before accepting transplant patients: all patients and accompanying family members must first screen throat swabs, take lung CT, etc., and exclude new crown pneumonia before they can be admitted to the hospital. Not only that, but the liver-derived donors used during the epidemic must undergo strict screening to rule out whether they are infected with the new crown virus.
Under the guidance of the Hospital Infection Department and Clinical Skills Center, general medical staff conduct hospital sense training, including wearing n95 masks, wearing and taking off protective clothing, etc., and implement them in clinical work to ensure that the protection requirements and standards of the epidemic are met in clinical operations. Daily temperature checks are not only carried out for patients and accompanying family members, but also patients are required to wear masks and hand disinfection around the clock.
"Because most of the patients who have a liver transplant have low immunity, we must strengthen their protection." Huang Ting, director of the Infection Prevention and Protection Department of the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen, introduced that the hospital specially moved the liver transplant department from the 17th floor to the 20th floor, set up an icu area in the department room, transformed the one-way medical passage, set up a special elevator, and exhausted all means to prevent cross-infection.
During the epidemic, the number of liver transplant patients has not decreased
Under the scientific and strict protection standards of the three hospitals in the city, the transplant surgery is carried out safely, efficiently and in an orderly manner. During the epidemic period, the three hospitals in Shenzhen did a total of 14 liver transplants and 2 kidney transplants, which were basically the same as the proportion of the same period.
Mr. Wu (pseudonym), who was recently discharged from the hospital, had a liver transplant during the epidemic on January 23 and was discharged on February 25. It turned out that Mr. Wu, who was suffering from liver cancer, had undergone a liver cancer operation in November last year. He knew that he had to get a liver transplant as soon as possible before the recurrence to save his life. But what Mr. Wu did not expect was that not long after the liver cancer operation, there was an epidemic, and many hospitals across the country stopped doing liver transplant surgery.
"Thanks to the third city hospital for not stopping liver transplantation for patients under the epidemic, I was able to pick up my life." Mr. Wu said that he had never worried about the risk of contracting the new crown virus, because during his hospitalization, in order to prevent cross-infection, the medical staff in the hospital did a lot of protective measures, which reassured him.
