Lemurs are similar to rabbit monkeys, but the front teeth of the lower jaw produce a "comb tooth" for grooming. About 50 million years ago, lemurs and their close relatives spread throughout Africa, Europe and North America, but today, the bare-faced lemur and finger monkey are only found on the island of Madagascar.

Name: Giant Lemur
AGE: Present
Location: Africa (Madagascar)
Size: Length 1.5 meters
The giant lemur is the largest known lemur, with a large body, short limbs, and weighing about 50 kg. Unlike its smaller inbreeds, it cannot leap between trees and may crawl slowly over the rainforest in search of food. Giant lemurs may eventually become extinct due to human hunting.
