Former members of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, including Ho Chi-wai, Chu Kai-ti, Leung Kwok-hung and former convener of the "Democratic Front", Chan Hao-hwan, earlier confessed to three crimes, including inciting confusion and participating in unauthorized assembly, and sentenced them to 6 to 12 months in prison in the District Court on the 16th.
Hong Kong's China News Agency reported that on July 1 last year, citizens participated in illegal demonstrations on Hong Kong Island, and 8 people, including Chen Haohuan, Tsang Kin Shing, Xu Zijian, Hu Zhiwei, Chen Rongtai, Zhu Kaidi, Leung Kwok Hung and Tang Shili, were charged, and in addition to Chen Rongtai's earlier denial of charges, 7 of them had already confessed guilt.
Chan Hao Huan, Tsang Kin Shing, Xu Zijian and Hu Zhiwei admitted that on 30 June last year, they had illegally incited others to knowingly participate in an unauthorized assembly; Chan Haohuan, Xu Zijian, Hu Zhiwei, Leung Kwok Hung, Chu Kai-yi and Tang Shili admitted to holding or organizing an unauthorized assembly in Wan Chai on 1 July last year and knowingly participating in an unauthorized assembly.
Judge You Dekang pointed out at the time of sentencing that Chan Haohuan, Tsang Kin Shing, Xu Zijian and Hu Zhiwei directly incited Hong Kong citizens to participate in the parade, and their speeches were widely reported by the media, clearly hoping to encourage many people to participate.
Although the illegal march lasted only about 4 to 14 minutes, You dekang said that without effective police enforcement, the activity will continue and there is a risk of violent conflict.
In the end, Chen Haohuan was sentenced to 12 months, Hu Zhiwei and Zeng Jiancheng were sentenced to 10 months, Liang Guoxiong was sentenced to 8 months, and Zhu Kaidi, Xu Zijian and Deng Shili were sentenced to 6 months.
As Chen Haohuan, Leung Kwok-hung and Zhu Kaidi are serving sentences in other cases, part of the sentences in this case must be phased in. As for Chen Rongtai, the case will begin on June 27 next year. (End)
