Witness the changes of the Xu clan in Tanshan
Walk into Tanshan Village, pass by the archway, pond, ancient trees, and see the Xu Ancestral Hall in the distance around the corner. In the square in front of the ancestral hall, there are ten flagpoles with famous ancestors. At the front door stands a pair of drum stones, on which hangs a wooden plaque "Xu Clan Ancestral Hall".
There are couplets on both sides of the gate: "Gaoyang Sect Yuanguang Lu Xun Chong."
Xu Juquan, the 27th generation of Tanshan Village, introduced, "This couplet in front of the gate generally introduces the historical origin of this ancestral hall, 'Gaoyang' is the county of Xu's family, that is, Xu's from Gaoyang, Hebei, 'Paiyuan' refers to Xu's origin a long time ago, 'Guanglu' refers to the ancestor Guanglu Doctor Xu Yanxian, 'Xun Chong' refers to sacrifice, that is, this ancestral hall is mainly dedicated to Guanglu Doctor." ”

The Xu Ancestral Hall is rebuilt on the basis of the original Guangyin Hall, which is the oldest and most important ancestral hall in Tanshan Village, and looking back at its history, it is actually the change of the Xu clan in Tanshan.
According to the data, the Tanshan Xu clan began in Putian County, Fujian Province, and the ancestor of the Song Dynasty Guanglu Doctor Xu Yan first lived in Tanshan, and then moved to Sixing County due to official affairs, and his grandson Xu Qing was the ancestor of Tanshan Kai Village. Since Xu Qing came to Tanshan Village, it has a history of more than 900 years and has been passed down for nearly 30 generations.
According to reports, Xu Qinggong, the ancestor of Tanshan Kai Village, had two sons, the Duke of Changyuan and the Duke of Cishu. The second ShuGong gave birth to a son named Caiju, the third generation gave birth to the second son Changfuqing, the second Qingqing (the ancestor of the mountain frightened house), the fourth Fuqing gave birth to the second son Changyunzhong (red stone room), the second chenggong (white stone room), the descendants mainly from these three rooms.
Among them, the mountain scar house is a smaller ancestral hall; the red stone house built the ancestral hall Guangyin Hall, because all the foundations are maroon stones, so it is also called the red stone hall, that is, the current Xu clan ancestral hall; and the white stone house jianzong ancestral hall, because all the foundations are made of white stones, so it is also called the white stone temple, the original appearance no longer exists, the old site is now the village party group service center.
The Xu clan is leafy, and its branches to other villages are also leafy, with more than 6,000 people living at home and abroad and Hong Kong and Macao people, which is the largest Xu village in Panyu District. The four brothers of Hong Kong singer Hui Guanjie, the famous Hong Kong singer Xu Zhi'an, and the captain of the Chinese fencing team men's sabre team, Xu Yingming, are all descendants of the Hui clan of Tanshan. From the mouth of the old ancestors in the village, it can be seen: "Xu Guanjie and his four brothers are from the red stone house. ”

Speaking of the Xu Ancestral Hall, the more special point is that there are many ancestral gong plaques hanging from the beams of the ancestral hall, which is now rare in most ancestral halls.
Walking into the front door, behind the door hangs a wooden plaque "Five Phoenix Family". The hanging wooden plaque "Dunyuan Hall" in the middle hall, and the hanging wooden plaque in the front center of the middle of the hall, "Yinqing Guanglu Doctor", that is, the ancestor Xu Yanxian, who was a famous minister of the Northern Song Dynasty. In the middle of the front of the entrance hall, the hanging wooden plaque "Chengwu Lang" is his grandson, and the middle middle hanging wooden plaque "Zhongfeng Dafu" is his son.

According to the data, in the eighth year (1075) of Emperor Shenzong of Song, Xu Yan advanced to Beijing to attend the ceremony and was admitted to the jinshi. During his official career, he served as a tea and salt transport envoy on Guangnan East Road, and finally became an official to the "Silver Qing Guanglu Doctor", and he also made outstanding achievements in literature, calligraphy and poetry.
"Xu Yanxian, his father, his uncle, two fathers and two fathers and one cousin, a total of 5 people, in 41 years, all passed the entrance examination, so there is a 'Five Feng Family'." Xu Juquan pointed to the plaque behind the front door and said.

On the wooden plaque "Kuiya" on the right side of the "Yinqing Guanglu Doctor", it is engraved with "Qinghe ZhiXian Huaizhou Shoumu Enke" and "The Thirteenth Chinese-style Lifter is Xu Sui Gongcheng". The owner of the plaque is Xu Sui, Kangxi Bingzi, whose contribution to Tanshan Village is still talked about by the villagers today.
Near the Xu Ancestral Hall, there is a bridge called "Betel Nut Bridge", which symbolizes the harmony and unity of the Xu clan, which Xu Sui initiated. According to reports, the ancestors of the red stone house and the white stone house were brothers and had always lived in harmony. Later, the people flourished, and the clan branched out, and then gradually a contradiction arose. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, when the two houses had several sectarian disputes and armed struggles over water conservancy problems, Xu Sui stepped forward and skillfully resolved the dispute with a betel nut taro, and proposed that the two rooms be mixed to live, and also build a bridge at the confluence of the water canal between the two temples to warn future generations to unite, which is today's betel nut bridge.
Coming to the back, the hanging wooden plaque on the Ming Dynasty is "long and long", and there is a shrine in the center, where the portraits and tablets of the ancestors of the Xu clan and the ancestors of the past generations are placed.
On both sides of the back wall are hung wood carvings of "filial piety and faithfulness, courtesy, righteousness and shame". In traditional Chinese society, these eight characters, known as the "Eight Virtues", embody the essence of traditional Chinese moral conduct and are the foundation of people advocated by traditional society. Xu Juquan introduced that the Xu Ancestral Hall pays attention to the preservation of traditional culture, "These eight words come from Confucian thought, and are also the main culture that our ancestral hall wants to pass on, which is an encouragement and warning to future generations." ”
On both sides of the gable wall of the ancestral hall hangs a congratulatory wooden carving couplet sent by the ancestors after the reconstruction, and there are four pairs of pillar couplets in the ancestral hall, including the couplets written by the three great people of Lingnan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties: Qu Dajun, Chen Gongyin and Liang Peilan, which is also a symbol of the status and financial and material resources of the Xu clan at that time.

Renovate the ancestral hall to reunite the clansmen
The Hui Ancestral Hall seen today was renovated in 2011. It has been repaired many times in history, and due to the different materials used in different dynasties, the materials displayed in the ancestral hall appear "messy", which indirectly has also become a witness to history.

The entire Xu Ancestral Hall sits north to south, three rooms and three entrances, a width of 16.27 meters, a total depth of 57 meters, a total area of 930 square meters, brick and stone structure, plain tire dripping water shear, hard mountain top, gray plastic dragon boat ridge, fish swimming ridge, double crested dragon boat hanging ridge, ornamental roll single pattern, Xiangyun wood carving pattern sealing cornice. The forward steps are seven steps, the shape is higher, the red sandstone is legged, and the beam frame in the temple is a structural system of the arch beam frame of the peak bucket that combines the lifting beam and the piercing bucket.
According to reports, after the founding of New China, the Red Stone Ancestral Hall was originally used as a warehouse for the production team to pile rice, and it was idle after the production was divided into fields and contracted to households. Although it has been rebuilt in the first year of tomorrow, the year of Kangxi Xin, the year of Tongzhi Jiashu, and 2009, it has finally become dilapidated due to its age, partially collapsed, and become a dangerous house.
