Many children with stunting, although they are all backward in development, but the point of backwardness is different, from the performance point of view, it is really very different.
For example, children with the same IQ of 60 to 70 are in the first grade, and some tests can be scored 80 or 90 points, while others have 20 or 30 points, which are uneven.
Let's talk about my students, what kind of status they were when they first came to me for class.
My student, A, is 6 1/2 years old, quiet and obedient, and well-behaved at home and at school. However, the language and athletic ability are very poor, the walking is soft and slow, and the writing is even more unsightly. Small a serious attention deficit, poor comprehension, particularly poor memory, simple homework is very problematic.
My other student, B, although his mind is also very slow, but in fact, the learning content is still good, and the homework of the first grade will be completed. However, behavior is very problematic, not listening to instructions, constantly running into trouble, and even deliberately challenging the teacher to provoke classmates. This child's motor ability is also particularly bad, the whole person is soft and spongy, and the big movement fine movement is not good.
Students c, interpersonal interaction is much worse than intelligence. Parents grasp tightly, and the first and second grade academic performance is OK. Because the teachers and classmates are very good, Xiao C interacts well with the teachers in school and can make friends. The language ability is backward but not obvious, that is, the logic of speech is almost poor. But his interpersonal interactions are obviously lagging behind the age, all 3rd grade, see the adults they like to sit on people's legs, but also like to lick people's arms, a little more complicated story can not be understood, because can not understand the motivation of the characters. When the child reached the 3rd grade, his grades could not keep up at all.
Student D, one year of school in the evening, has been outside to make up classes, the first grade and the second grade are barely passing up and down. However, the language ability is very poor, the speech is stuck, can not even form a sentence, can not explain a thing. I don't mess around at school, but I am in a state of wandering every day, I can't make friends, and I am often bullied.
Students e, 7 years old, often score more than 90 points in school, athletic ability is OK, need complex coordinated exercise to have difficulties. However, the words are not clear, the speech is slow, the vocabulary is small, and the expression ability is weak. He doesn't talk to people at school, and he doesn't pay attention to people when others talk to him. Emotional management is problematic and can't stand a little frustration.
My student f, 7 years old, has good language skills, clear pronunciation, and a small vocabulary, but his social skills are not good, and he cannot make friends. Little f has a good memory, and the endorsement is faster than the average child. But when I was in school, I didn't listen to the lectures, and I flipped through the books and knocked on the books. When taking the exam, many of the questions that would have been done did not do it, and others scored more than 90 points, and he alone scored 50 points.
My student g, speaking very clearly and coherently, is that the content of the expression is not very reliable. Although it is very childish to interact with people, I do not resist making friends and can play with children. However, at the age of 7 and a half, I can only count to 30, and 1 + 1 = 2 do not understand, nor do I know a few words.
There are many other children, and I will not list them all......... Therefore, children with stunting are really unreliable, and each one is different.
Why is that?
Because different areas of the brain have different functions, children who are lagging behind in development are not necessarily in which areas lag behind more.
It's like people who are not in good health, some are thin, some are fat, some have yellow faces, some have rough skin, some are weak, and some love is sick. Love to be sick, but also some respiratory system is not good, some digestive system is not good, are not the same.
The different functions of the brain can be roughly explained by the four lobes of the cerebral cortex.
Our brain is like a walnut kernel, which is divided into left and right hemispheres, and each hemisphere is divided into several large brain grooves, which are naturally divided into four parts: occipital lobe, temporal lobe, parietal lobe, and frontal lobe, so the brain has a total of 8 lobes.

Their functions are as follows (quite briefly, inevitably incomplete and imprecise):
Occipital lobes
The pillow leaf is at the back of our head, and this part of the sleeping pillow pillow is called the pillow leaf.
The occipital lobe is the smallest lobe of the brain, which has a relatively simple function and receives visual signals. The function of the occipital lobe is single, and the maturity is also the earliest, so among the children with developmental delays, there are fewer children with poor occipital lobe development. Performance is something like not being able to find something of certain colors.
Temporal leaves
The temporal lobes are on either side of the head near the top of the ears. Temporal lobe function is much more complicated. The temporal lobe is responsible for receiving and processing auditory signals, transmitting processing visual signals, and understanding language.
Temporal lobes are related to hearing and seeing, as well as understanding language, and children with developmental delays have more problems with temporal lobes. Poor auditory and visual attention, poor language comprehension (expression is necessarily poor), such children are particularly numerous.
parietal lobe
The position of the parietal lobe at the top of the head is mainly responsible for receiving and processing sensory signals and determining the spatial position of the object and itself.
Children with a particularly bad parietal lobe feel that the body does not handle information well, so there will be many problems with motor ability and body control. Of course, the stun is holistic, and there will be no stunted children who exercise particularly well, but there is a difference between much worse and less.
Frontal lobes
Assign attention, make plans, make decisions, guide behavior, make logical judgments and reasoning, and produce language.
The function of the frontal lobe is very, very important, and children with developmental delays do not have a good frontal lobe function, and they are different from others, but not necessarily which part of the function is much worse.
Regarding the function and performance of various parts of the brain, I will write here today and have the opportunity to share it later.
