The drama basically follows the traditional story about "The Legend of the White Snake", telling the story of the thousand-year-old white snake Bai Suzhen (Sun Xiaoxiao), who was enlightened by Guanyin Bodhisattva and came to the mortal world for a period of dust. In the mortal world, Bai Suzhen meets Xu Xian (Lu Hong), a benefactor who once saved him in a previous life, and in order to repay the favor, Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian meet, know each other, love each other, and eventually marry each other. The monk Fahai (Zhang Tianyang) of Jinshan Temple, who takes it as his duty to eliminate the demon and defend the Dao, is used by a wisp of evil thoughts in his previous life to try to break up Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian. Bai Suzhen's good sister Xiaoqing (Wang Wei) and Bai Suzhen fight against Fahai. Fahai was controlled by the Evil Mind Demon Dao, and all kinds of tricks were exhausted, and even at the expense of detaining Xu Xianxiang to threaten, Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing had no intention of creating boundless killings in order to save Xu Xianshui from flooding the Golden Mountain. Fahai calculated that the killings created by Bai Suzhen would be intolerable to heaven, and refined a purple gold bowl to subdue Bai Suzhen and press it under the Leifeng Pagoda. Xu Xian did not think that Bai Suzhen was a demon, loyal and unswervingly guarded the outside of the tower, including Xin Ru who raised himself and Bai Suzhen's son Xu Shilin. In the end, Xu Xian moved the heavens to get rid of the evil monk Fahai, tear down the Leifeng Pagoda, and rescue Bai Suzhen.
