Sometimes, the most familiar place may be the strangest - because it is familiar, it feels that everything is so ordinary, but ignores the beauty and highlights hidden in the ordinary daily trajectory. Therefore, most of the time, locals look at local landscapes and cultural attractions with a commonplace attitude of not being alarmed, rather than holding on to freshness and curiosity like foreign tourists. So I wanted to try to explore Wenzhou with a tourist mentality, and Ruian was one of the stops.
One day to go to Ruian to run errands, by the way to stay for half a day, so I thought of simply taking a half-day walk in Ryan, starting from Ruian's famous cultural landmark: Yuhai Lou.

Yuhai Building is open to the public free of charge, no ticket is required, and you can enter and visit after registering at the door. However, it should be noted that the lunch break here will be temporarily closed, if you are interested in visiting, please avoid the lunch break, otherwise you can only eat the closed door soup.
Yuhai Lou is one of the four major library buildings in Zhejiang, and is the private library of Ruian celebrities Sun Yiyan and Sun Yirang. The word "jade sea" is taken from "as precious as jade, as vast as the sea".
As soon as I entered the door, I saw the introduction of Mr. Sun Yirang. Mr. Sun Yirang was a famous master of Pu Xue in the late Qing Dynasty, who was well-established in the fields of classics, history, examination and surveying, and was also a pioneer and founder of modern Zhejiang education.
"All the hanlins in the world are descendants, and the two protégés of the prime minister of the DPRK and the Middle Kingdom are born." These two sentences sound like a big tone, but in fact, they accurately summarize the influence of the Sun family at that time.
However, what impressed me the most was Mr. Sun's emphasis on women's education. In 1906, Mr. Sun Yirang initiated the establishment of three girls' primary schools in Dexiang, Xuanwen and Yiwu, and took the lead in sending his daughter to school. Under his impetus, by 1908, 20 girls' primary schools had been built in Wenchu County, accounting for almost half of the province. From this point of view, Mr. Sun's thinking is really forward-looking.
In addition, from 1902 to 1907, Mr. Sun Yirang founded the "Persuasion Women's Foot Binding Association", "Mandarin Workshop", "Wenzhou Popular Education Society" and other organizations, personally or invited celebrities to give lectures on Chinese and foreign history, current affairs, local news and impart scientific knowledge.
There is a pond in the backyard of Yuhai Building, where many koi carp swim around. Inside the wall is a classical garden charm, outside the wall is a cluster of modern high-rise buildings, making people suddenly feel a sense of staggering ancient and modern.
There is also a reading room next to the exit of yuhai building (that is, another entrance facing Zhongyi Street), which is very intimate and quite consistent with the tone of the library building.
Stepping out of the Yuhai Building, we came to Zhongyi Street. Diagonally opposite is the Liji Medical Hall Museum, which is also free and open, and the area is not large, which is worth a look.
Liji Medical Hall is a new-style medical hall created by Mr. Chen Qiu and others during the Qing Guangxu period, and the whole group of buildings adopts the layout of traditional buildings, consisting of a gate house, an east and west wing, a main building, and a medicine garden.
Returning to Zhongyi Street, I found that a certain section of the road was still under renovation. Zhongyi Street is an old street in Ruian that has regained its new luster in recent years, and you can see the fusion of history and modernity everywhere - the humanistic sculptures on the road and the creative paintings on the walls are all new and old.
Unconsciously, I walked to the Yuhai Art Museum and found that there was also a calligraphy exhibition here. It seems that the Yuhai Art Museum is also a newly opened art exhibition hall during this time, since you have passed by, you will go in and look around.
Coming out of the Yuhai Art Museum, continue walking down Zhongyi Street, I found that there is also a visitor center here, which is also very careful.
Further down, when I was about to reach the end of Zhongyi Street, I saw that there was a drum hall on the street.
So I walked to the end of Zhongyi Street, turned left and walked a few tens of meters, found that there was a building quite special, looked closer, and found that it was the old site of the Dexiang Girls' School. However, it seems that this old site has not been officially managed for the time being, and I don't know what will become of this place in the future.
The hurried Ryan half-day walking tour ended like this. Of course, Ryan is still not familiar with this place right now, but I may go back in the future. I believe that this place still has a lot of treasures that are worth exploring, and most importantly, always curious about everything in the moment, rather than falling into a state of numbness.
