Beijing, 7 Mar (China News Service) -- Title: Taiwanese NPC deputy Xu Pei's "Falling Peanuts" Cross-Strait Situation

China News Service reporter Long Min

"The children of the Xu family all grew up listening to the story of "Falling Peanuts.")

Xu Pei, deputy to the National People's Congress, vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, and president of the Chongqing Municipal Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from the China News Agency on the 7th that xu's descendants are willing to be "buried in the ground with fallen peanuts" and are doing some practical things in a down-to-earth manner.

Xu Pei's great-grandfather, Xu Nanying, was one of the 33 imperial scholars in Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty, and was also a famous poet and patriot. In 1895, after the signing of the Treaty of Maguan, Xu Nanying led soldiers to defend Tainan and fight against the Japanese invasion. The day before the Japanese occupation of Tainan City, Xu Nanying was forced to leave Taiwan and move his family to the mainland and take root. Among Xu Nanying's six sons and two daughters, the third son Xu Zanmu is Xu Pei's grandfather, and the fourth son Xu Zankun is the famous writer Xu Dishan.

Xu Pei said that when the fourth uncle Xu Dishan wrote "Falling Peanuts", his great-grandfather Xu Nanying had already died. But in "Falling Peanuts", the great-grandfather wants his children to "be like peanuts because it is useful, not a great and good-looking thing", which has become a tradition of the Xu family.

For Xu Pei, inheriting the spirit of "falling peanuts" is to do things that are beneficial to promoting cross-strait exchanges.

Over the past few years, Xu Pei has actively helped compatriots of Taiwan Province living on the mainland to do good deeds and solve difficulties for them; he has actively promoted economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between Chongqing and Taiwan, enhanced the interaction and understanding of the people on both sides of the strait, and especially promoted exchanges and exchanges between grass-roots organizations in Chongqing and Taiwan.

After being elected as a deputy to the National People's Congress, Xu Pei became even more "busy," and she successively focused on taiwanese youth starting businesses on the mainland, Taiwan businessmen and Taiwan enterprises enjoying equal treatment, cross-strait economic, trade, and cultural exchanges, and supporting poor Taiwan compatriots, and made suggestions. She said: "These are the things that Taiwan compatriots are most concerned about and need to be resolved, and they are all things that are beneficial to promoting cross-strait exchanges." ”

This year, Xu Pei submitted a number of Taiwan-related proposals for donating two giant pandas to Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. She told reporters that due to frequent exchanges between the two sides of the strait, in the contacts and exchanges with Taiwan compatriots, she found that a pair of giant pandas donated to Taiwan by the mainland have attracted the attention and love of the Taiwan people. It not only brings tourism and economic benefits to the Taipei Municipal Zoo and even Taipei City, but also narrows the spiritual distance between compatriots on both sides of the strait and becomes a friendly symbol of "one family on both sides of the strait".

Kaohsiung City is committed to the development of tourism industry. Xu Pei said that after the giant pandas have settled in Kaohsiung, they can effectively stimulate the tourism industry in central and southern Taiwan and enhance the understanding and emotional connection between the grassroots people in central and southern Taiwan and the mainland.

"Compatriots on both sides of the strait are one family, and there is no reason not to work together to develop and share development." Xu Pei said: We should continue to intensify cross-strait exchanges and narrow the psychological distance between the people on both sides of the strait. "As a Taiwanese NPC deputy, I will continue to inherit the spirit of 'falling peanuts' and do practical things that are beneficial to cross-strait exchanges." (End)
