What does it look like to be a "soldier" to the extreme? The first sergeant major is such a being. In different posts, with 20 or 30 years of perseverance, they have become leaders in various professional fields and are well-deserved "soldier kings" in the minds of officers and soldiers.
On January 17, a certain base of the Navy's East China Sea Fleet invited six first-class sergeant majors from grass-roots units to the podium of the "Soldier King Story Meeting" to tell their military life, encourage officers and men not to forget their original intentions, and realize the value of life on the road to a strong army. These 6 "soldier kings", some from high mountains and islands, some from the front line of ships, the shortest 28 years of military age, the longest 32 years, are the top pillars of their respective units. But how did these ordinary soldiers of that year transform into "soldier kings"? And listen to them tell the story at the "Soldier King Story Meeting".

The Legend of the "Old Sea" ——
Be a sailor in a place where you can't see the sea
Bing Wang business card: Yang Aimin, enlisted in the army in March 1990. He is currently the captain and technician of the mechanical and electrical squad of a navigation station of the Navy, a pacesetter of the whole army's love of the army, and has won the second class merit once and the third class merit twice.

This year is my 29th year in the army. Just like everyone loves to call me "Old Yang", the resident masses call our group of sailors "Lao Hai". However, our group of navigation station sailors in the depths of the mountains is a little far from the "sea". I, for my part, were initially "farther away." Compared with the same batch of soldiers to learn navigation, dry mechanical and electrical, my first major is to feed the staff, this "grocery" name is indeed a bit on the table, at that time to write to the family are embarrassed to mention. But in order to let the comrades-in-arms eat better, every day before dawn, I rode a bicycle, hung a vegetable basket, and tirelessly went back and forth in several vegetable markets, carefully selected, repeatedly bargained, and bought as many delicious and cheap dishes as possible. For more than half a year, the name and price of the dish were filled with 5 thick books. At the end of the year, I was the only recruit in the next company to be commended.
The next year, I started working as a cook again. The criteria I set for myself were intuitive: having leftovers in a swill bucket was a dereliction of duty. In less than 4 months, I was promoted to the head of the cooking class, and at the end of the year, our small canteen was rated as an advanced canteen by the superiors, and the cooking class was awarded the third class of collective merit.
After just one year as a cooking team leader, I was transferred to work as a warehouse keeper. This work is very ordinary, that is, "sending and receiving". I think that even ordinary posts must be done by someone. At that time, the warehouse had no shelves, and tens of thousands of spare parts and spare parts were piled up in a mess, which was very inconvenient to send and receive. On my first day in office, I measured the size, ordered materials, and found paint by myself, and rushed to make 37 shelves a week, and numbered the parts and spare parts one by one. I couldn't understand the English on the imported equipment, so I copied it down and found someone to translate it. While working as a custodian, I received and sent tens of thousands of spare parts and spare parts without a single mistake. Although I did not get the honor in reality, I understood a truth in "sending and receiving", and doing simple things to the extreme is a higher level of excellence. So I rewarded myself with this sentence.
In March 1994, the organization arranged for me to go to a research institute to study navigation. I had just worked for a few months to find a little feeling, and there was a shortage of mechanical and electrical professionals in Taili, so I changed to mechanical and electrical work. The first time I walked into the diesel engine room, I still haven't forgotten it, when the whole person was stupid: there were dense road maps and English annotations everywhere, so why should I be a junior high school student? At that time, I wanted to report my thoughts to the leader, but I calmed down and thought about it carefully, and at present, there is a shortage of mechanical and electrical personnel, and it is the trust of the organization to let me do it. I gritted my teeth and said, "Dry!" This gave rise to the professional skills that I later relied on to make a living.
In December 2006, my fourth term of non-commissioned officer service expired, and because there was no senior non-commissioned officer in the mechanical and electrical major, I was facing demobilization. After solemn consideration, the Taiwan Party Committee decided to keep me as a special talent and report it to the higher-level organs through various requests for instructions. Later, I heard the leader of the station say that there was another leader who wrote a letter of recommendation for me. I will always remember that day, when I left all the business information to the apprentice, the ticket home had been booked, and I received a notice in the afternoon, and the next day the superior assessment team was going to assess me. After many examinations, I was finally successfully transferred to the fifth level non-commissioned officer, becoming the first senior non-commissioned officer since the establishment of the navigation station.
Some people say that my experience of this "old sea" is a bit legendary. But I am just an ordinary member of the "old sea", and when I talk about history and tell stories here, I want to read with you about our group of sailors who have never seen the sea in the mountains. I walked through 28 spring, summer, autumn and winter with the navigation station, and saw generations of navigation officers and soldiers interpreting the story of the "old sea" rooted in the mountains and the ocean in their hearts. I firmly believe that the new generation of navigation officers and soldiers will take over the baton of the "old sea" and continue to write the story of a strong army in the new era with youth and enthusiasm.
Lei Hai Fanghua——
The world of minesweepers has no cowardice and no retreat
Bing Wang Business Card: Wang Wenqiang, joined the army in December 1990. He is currently the captain of the minesweeper zone of the Jingjiang warship of the Navy, and has twice won the Outstanding Talent Award for Non-Commissioned Officers of the Whole Army and the Third Class Meritorious Service Once.
When I was first assigned to a minesweeper, I was filled with confusion and loss. Because most of the comrades who joined the army together were assigned to landing ships and frigates, and almost all of them were assigned to service ships, and only I came to the minesweeper. Everyone here may know that there used to be a saying called "boarding a ship and not going to a minesweeper." Why? It is because the minesweeper is not only small in tonnage, but also the physical field has a very large impact on the human body. Because there is a huge iron core coil on the ship, a strong Gaussian magnetic field will be generated at the moment of energization, and even the wrench that falls to the ground can immediately "stand upright". In addition, there is an invisible infrasound field and noise created by acoustic minesweepers, so long-term work on minesweepers will cause a series of adverse physiological reactions: memory loss, hair loss, arrhythmia, decreased immunity, etc.
However, these confusions gradually disappeared after I learned about the past of the brigade. Because, I joined a brigade with a glorious history of war, 3 ships, 11 individuals who had made meritorious achievements in battle, and a large number of heroic models of battle, such as Zhu Chongbin and Xia Baosan, emerged. These glorious histories made me awe-inspired, and also strengthened my determination to "take root in mine-sweeping ships and dedicate mine-sea fields".
Over the past few years, the brigade's new anti-mine equipment and teaching materials have been built from scratch, and the core anti-mine capability has changed from crossing the river by feeling the stones to leading the construction of the navy's anti-mine, and countless first ships, firsts, firsts, and firsts, and I am both a witness and a witness. I have personally experienced an accidental detonation of a mine during an exercise, which caused the hull to tilt, the entire ship to lose power, and a large amount of water to the tail axle cabin. However, just as the so-called "Lei Hai sharpens his sword to show his skill, and does not break the 'ambush soldiers' and will not return it in the end", the world of minesweepers has no cowardice and retreat. After so many years of research, I have been able to do without shaking my hands, not panicking, maintaining the principles of stability, accuracy and lightness, accurately delivering mine to mine-laying points again and again, and the generations of "mine-sweepers" who are not afraid of hardships and difficulties have also sounded the prestige of our brigade and established a "brand" in the field of anti-mine mines.
Collective supremacy -
The non-ordinary life of the ordinary "black brother"
Bing Wang Business Card: He Shirong, enlisted in the army in December 1990. He is currently the electrician squad leader of a certain minesweeper brigade of the Navy, and has twice won the Outstanding Talent Award for Non-Commissioned Officers of the Whole Army, and has been awarded the Second Class Meritorious Service once and the Third Class Meritorious Service 5 times.
Because my face is relatively dark, in the past everyone used to call me "Little Black", and later when I got older, they affectionately called me "Black Brother". After 29 years in the military, I look back now, I have not done anything earth-shattering, I am stupid, and I have nothing to show off. But there is one thing, as long as the task given to me by the leader is not "said" by mouth, I dare to pat my chest and say: "No problem, guaranteed to be completed!" ”
However, although the experience is ordinary, there are still some memorable things in my military career after so many years. During the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, one day our ship, which was responsible for security tasks, dropped anchor at the anchorage and stood by, and then received orders to immediately go to the designated sea area for patrol, but after pulling the "anchor deployment", it did not move for a long time. It turned out that the anchor chains were twisted together during the anchor lifting process, and they could not get up at all. At this time, either the person is hoisted into the water and the live chain is buckled to pull the anchor chain up to the deck for processing, or the anchor chain is thrown away directly. However, the command post sent 3 comrades down to try to be fruitless. Looking at everyone's anxious look, thinking that I still had some strength, I said, "Let me try." "I quickly put on my life jacket and rolled over the guardrail down to the outboard, and when I went down to look at it, I was dumbfounded, the anchor chain was knotted, and the water was so fast that I couldn't control my body in the water, and I couldn't exert my strength." I held the anchor chain in one arm, and the other arm struggled to tie the knotted two sections together with a live chain link. Several times when I was about to buckle up, I was shot off by the waves... After tossing and turning like this for almost an hour, I finally tied the two anchor chains, pulled them up, and solved the problem. When I came up, the whole person seemed to collapse, and the inside of my arm was still worn out by a large piece of skin due to the constant friction of the anchor chain. Afterwards, someone said: "Brother Black, you are an electrician captain, what does this gun sail have to do with you, why are you looking for this guilt yourself?" I just smiled. In fact, at that time, I didn't think too much about it, and I felt that as an old comrade, an old party member, and an old backbone, I would instinctively stand up and do my best when the unit encountered difficulties. In my heart, collective honor is above all else.
Practice for war————
Be able to endure hardships, be able to dedicate, and be able to fight
Bing Wang Business Card: Wang Limin, enlisted in the army in December 1990. He is currently the commander of the main gun of the Sanming ship of the Navy, and has compiled teaching materials such as "Procedures for the Operation and Use of a Certain Type of Naval Gun", and has been awarded 1 second class merit and 4 third class merits.
When I first joined the army, I had no idea of "being a soldier." In the winter of the first year of the recruits, the brigade received the task of supporting the reconstruction and construction of the river project in the garrison, and I remember that when I saw the slogan "especially able to endure hardships, especially able to fight, and especially able to dedicate" on the side of the river, I felt greatly encouraged, and I felt like I had endless strength. Later, I was not only assigned to the commando team, but also awarded the third class for outstanding performance after the construction.
Over the years, the Navy's training and support level has been continuously improved, but I always feel that no matter what step the hardware such as weapons and equipment is developed, the fighting spirit is still the key to determining the outcome of the war. So, how does the fighting spirit of the soldiers come from? It is necessary to train like a real battle, to be strict and difficult, and only then can we temper a strong fighting style.
Look at this scar on the right side of my face. In that year, the captain was organized to conduct a comprehensive training and pass examination, and it was necessary to conduct a comprehensive offensive and defensive exercise for the ship; on that day, the sea conditions were very poor, and the wind and waves were high, but from the assessment team to the ship, they all insisted on assessing according to the plan, that is, to test the results of the training under harsh conditions. I was preparing for the main gun position, and the captain maneuvered the ship according to the tactical requirements. "Left full rudder!" Suddenly, a big wave struck, and I fell out to starboard. I threw myself down, but my chin slammed heavily on a steel plate. I quickly got up, covered the scratched wound and persevered, returning to the battle position to continue the operation. Later this wound was stitched 13 times, but I felt nothing. Assessment is actual combat, and we do not train troops in danger or in danger; how can we dare to show our swords and win wars in wartime?!
The first spike soldier -
The inheritance of the mantle of "living fossils"
Bing Wang Business Card: Ren Zaiqing, joined the army in November 1987. The technician of the former equipment repair institute of a certain speedboat brigade of the Navy has been rated as an excellent non-commissioned officer and an excellent Communist Party member many times, and has been awarded the third class merit once.
Some small comrades like me who have served as a first-class sergeant major will call me a "living fossil", as our instructors often say: "Old squad leader, I was not born when you were a soldier!" "Yes, I have experienced a lot in the past 32 years, and I have really felt the earth-shaking changes in the troops.
After enlisting, I was assigned to a torpedo boat, and I still vividly remember that life on the boat was very difficult, the supply of fresh water was based on a canvas water bladder and a few plastic buckets, and the bed where I slept was a hammock. The days are hard, but we have faith in our hearts. At that time, I often heard the captain tell the story of the "three battles and three victories" of the brigade he had participated in, and we also wanted to rush to the battlefield like him, so every time we went to sea, we would prepare and train according to the standards of participating in the war.
In the past 32 years, from torpedo boats to missile boats, I have witnessed the transformation and leapfrog development of the people's navy from weak to strong, and witnessed the growth and progress of a group of soldiers. But there is one thing that has never changed, that is, the team spirit of the brigade of "loyalty and courage, vanguard of defending the sea, rapid mobility, and first breakthrough construction". As long as this "soul" is maintained, it will certainly be able to make new contributions on the battlefield in the future.
Last year, a kid who was also a soldier in the Navy called me and said, "Dad, I want to keep my non-commissioned officer and continue to work in the army." "My eyes were wet. I am very relieved that when I took off this uniform, my son inherited my career, and seeing my son was like seeing myself. I think that as long as we relay forward from generation to generation, we will get closer and closer to our goal of building a world-class army!
Take the lead in setting an example——
What a veteran, the old company commander told me
Bing Wang Business Card: Zhu Qiujun, enlisted in the army in December 1991. He is currently the head of the general decoration and management squad and technician of a certain shore guidance regiment of the Navy, and has twice won the Outstanding Talent Award for Non-Commissioned Officers of the Whole Army and has been awarded the Third Class Meritorious Service 5 times.
The recruits had just left the company, and the first person I came into contact with was my company commander Guan Suojin. He has dark skin and bright eyes, which are particularly lean at first glance. One day he took us down the mountain to pick up manure and buried it in the agricultural and sideline fields to fertilize. At first I thought he and the veterans must have finished the task and smoked a cigarette next to them, shouting a few words "Let's work harder!" As a result, the company commander and a few veterans rushed to dig up the dung, rolled up their sleeves and jumped into the dung pit, and they couldn't squeeze in when they were slow. Guan Lianchang worked hardest, a basin of dung, his hands did not stop, that scene impressed me too deeply. I worked with the company commander for a year, he never put up an official shelf, but he always told me with practical actions how to use "look at me" and "follow me" to establish a good image for the soldiers.
I am the only first-class sergeant major in the whole regiment, and some comrades say that you are more "free" and that the training work can be arranged by yourself. In fact, from the radar squad leader to the mechanic technician, to the model aircraft team leader and non-commissioned officer leader, I found that the thicker the experience of my "veteran", the heavier the responsibility on my shoulders. A very important criterion for improving the combat effectiveness of units is the construction of the squad leader team. After serving as a soldier for more than 20 years, I have brought out a lot of backbone squad leaders, and if there is any trick, it is to lead by example like my old company commander and walk in the front in all kinds of work. Therefore, when I switched from radar troops to aircraft modules, I only spent less than half a year as a "halfway out of the house", and through the study of flight principles, aerodynamics, aero engines, radio remote control, meteorological theory and other relevant knowledge that model aircraft soldiers need to master, the aircraft models equipped with them can be retracted freely, and general faults can be "removed by hand". Even some small things in life are always paying attention to the example, like usually going to the small shop outside the camp to buy some daily necessities, although it is only a few steps away, but I will ask the unit for leave when I go out of the camp. Because the system is formulated, it must be implemented, and the veterans must strictly abide by the rules.
