Is it profitable to invest in the construction of a marine ranch?

Before the press corps arrived in Shandong on December 2, 2018, we received this question in the background of the WeChat public platform of Oceans and Fisheries. In fact, in August 2018, the Shandong Provincial Government announced that in 2017, the comprehensive economic income of Shandong Marine Ranch reached 210 billion yuan.

From the data point of view, the economic benefits brought by the marine ranch are obvious, but the problem is further explored, and it becomes how profitable to invest in the construction of the marine ranch? With this question in mind, we visited 5 state-level marine ranches in Shandong Province and found that the protection of the ecological environment and the persistence of scientific and technological innovation have become the common development of these leading enterprises.

·1 billion yuan investment in the construction of marine ranch

Establish a three-dimensional ecological breeding model for marine ranches

The industrial chain covers fry breeding, ecological breeding, deep processing, cold chain logistics, leisure tourism, big health industry, etc

Shandong Dongfang Marine Science and Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Oriental Ocean), a listed company whose industrial chain extends from seedling breeding to precision medicine, formerly known as Yantai Aquatic Technology Promotion Center, carried out shareholding reform in 1998 as one of the 50 pilot units of Yantai Municipal Enterprise Reform, and established Oriental Ocean in 2001.

"Since 2008, Oriental Ocean has embarked on the planning and construction of marine ranches, and has invested a total of 1 billion yuan." The relevant person in charge of Oriental Ocean stressed the importance of building marine farms in its development process. At present, Oriental Ocean has laid out 5 pastures around the Shandong Peninsula, totaling 48,500 mu. Its most distinctive feature is the three-dimensional ecological breeding model based on the establishment of marine ranches, that is, the ocean is divided into three layers: upper, middle, and lower, cage and raft culture are developed in the upper layer, ecological reefs are used in the middle layer for fish and shrimp breeding, artificial algae farms are constructed at the bottom, and ecological reefs are used for thorn ginseng bottom sowing culture.

The reporter noted that The Oriental Ocean has a national engineering research center for seaweed and sea cucumber approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, which brings together more than 100 experts from the Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and more than 100 scientific research and technical personnel of the center, and has an advanced seaweed germplasm resource bank in China. "Taking advantage of the R&D advantages in seaweed, the company invested in the construction of marine ranches to build algae farms." The person in charge said that the algae farm can not only improve the ecological environment, but also provide sufficient biological bait for sea cucumbers. In this way, sea cucumbers are grown in their natural environment, and quality and price are guaranteed. According to relevant data, Oriental Ocean produces more than 2,000 tons of sea cucumbers per year, which is an important product of the company.

At the same time as the sea cucumbers were breeding, there were more fish in the sea, so recreational fisheries came into being. Located in Muping, the Oriental Ocean Sea Fishing Base is a national recreational fishing base, of which black catfish, six-line fish, star eels and other abundant resources, attracting many tourists to come to experience.

In order to lengthen the industrial chain and improve the added value of products, Oriental Ocean, relying on the existing sea cucumber breeding industry and aquatic product processing and export industry, has built 5 marine workers with international advanced water level and fish skin collagen peptide production lines, and developed a series of special sea cucumber product systems such as ready-to-eat, high-pressure, freeze-boiled, salted, light-dried, freeze-dried, liquid sea cucumber, sea cucumber peptide, and marine functional foods, health care products, cosmetics and other products with collagen peptides as raw materials. Orient Ocean and Ocean University jointly developed directional enzymatic digestion technology processes the remaining fish skin from the processing of fish fillets into collagen egg whites, adding more than 20 times the value of the fish skin.

One of the largest demonstration bases of circulating aquaculture in China

The largest grouper breeding base in China

More than 5% of sales revenue is used for scientific research funds

Laizhou Mingbo Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Mingbo Aquatic Products) is a valuable marine fish seedlings, cultivation of 60,000 cubic meters of water, 125,000 acres of confirmed sea area, the annual output of semi-slippery tongue fish, spotted seabream, Yunlong grouper and other fish species 20 million, commercial fish 1000 tons. Unlike the Eastern Ocean, which uses marine ranching as the basis for aquaculture, in Mingbo Aquatic Products, marine ranching is more like a model upgrade. The cultivation of famous and excellent fish in the waters of Shandong must take into account the impact of low temperatures, and before the large-scale construction of marine pastures, the advantage of Mingbo aquatic products lies in factory circulating water aquaculture. At present, Mingbo Aquatic Products has 50,000 square meters of factory circulating water breeding vehicles and 10,000 square meters of factory flowing water nursery workshop, which is one of the largest circulating water breeding demonstration bases in China. Wang Xiaomei, director of the Mingbo Fisheries Office, said that compared with traditional flow-through aquaculture, factory circulating aquaculture can save 90% of water, 69% of electricity, and reduce wastewater discharge by more than 90%, so as to truly achieve sustainable development of aquaculture.

On this basis, from May to October every year, Mingbo Aquatic Products will put the seedlings into deep-water cages and large-scale intelligent ecological purse seines, so that the fish can grow at the best temperature and in the most pristine environment, so that the growth cycle of the finished fish is shorter and the quality is higher.

As the location of the provincial key laboratory of the main marine fish breeding technology in Shandong Province, more than 5% of the sales revenue of Mingbo aquatic products will be used for scientific research funds. According to reports, in 2011, Mingbo Aquatic Products realized the artificial breeding of groupers in the north for the first time, and successively completed the large-scale artificial breeding of more than ten grouper species such as red-spotted grouper, pearl gentian, yunlong spot, and rat dragon spot; in 2014, it became the first enterprise in China to master the artificial breeding technology of grouper seabream. In addition, Mingbo Aquatic Products also uses molecular breeding, hybrid breeding, family breeding and other technologies to continuously optimize the breeding system of fine seeds, and reserve more than 20,000 parents such as grouper, spotted seabream, semi-slippery tongue fish, five amberjack amberjacks, and flower-tailed eagle salamanders. Seedlings are not only sold in Shandong, Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu, Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan and other places, but also exported to Japan. At present, Mingbo Aquatic Products has built the largest grouper breeding base in China, and the annual fry production accounts for 1/10 of the total national output.
