This summer, due to the crisis of public health security, the arles International Photography Festival, the world's largest, oldest and most influential international photography festival, was regrettably suspended in France. But every autumn, some of the selected exhibitions at the Arles Photography Festival in France travel across the ocean to Xiamen, China.
It is reported that the 6th Jimei Arles International Photography Festival will be grandly opened in Xiamen on November 27, and the exhibition will last until January 3, 2021. In 2015, the festival was founded by Rong Rong, a leading figure in the Chinese photography industry (co-founder of the Three Shadows Photography Art Center), and Sam Berger, president of the Accademia de France in Rome and then president of the Arles Photography Festival in France. Jointly sponsored by Stauzi, it is jointly sponsored by Sanyingtang Photography Art Center and Xiamen Tianxia Jimei Wenguang Media Co., Ltd.
The reporter learned that this year's Jimei. Arles will exhibit 26 exhibitions and will be invited by renowned photography critic and curator Professor Gu Zheng as artistic director. After five years of construction, the Jimei Arles International Photography Festival held in Xiamen has become one of the top photography events in the Chinese photography industry. The festival is known for a series of high-quality art photographs that have never been made public before, attracting more than 300,000 visitors to date.
2020 Jimei Arles Photography Season Exhibition Projects:
Six annual Arles units: The photography season features six exhibitions at the Arles Photography Festival in France and sent to China in the fall. This year will feature classic photography from Raymond Cochettier (France) in New Wave; The exhibition "In Search of the Truth" by Elsa Para & Johanna Benáñus (France) in the Discovery Prize section of the Arles Photography Festival; Philippe Braggne (Belgium) exhibition "The Earth Is Not Round"; and François Xavier Gebry (France) exhibition "The Foot of the Son"; as well as the 2020 Arles Book Awards exhibition and the Arles Annual Night Special Screening Exhibition.

Two "Local Action" unit exhibitions: "Homecoming – Fujian Influences Around 1928 in Liu Kang's Album" will feature precious photographic works taken by Singaporean art pioneer Liu Kang in his hometown of Fujian, aiming to explore the connection between photography and the place where the photography season was held, and this exhibition is the first time in 90 years that it has returned home. "A Cognitive Experiment on Hometown - Mountains, Water, and Cities" presents the theme works of 6 outstanding young artists on "Mincheng" and "Minshan", as well as "Water" and "Hometown", artists are: Liang Tingwei, Liao Zekai, Liu Xuyang, Zeng Zekun, Zhang Yu and Zhou Zijie.

Four "Unbounded Images" Unit Exhibitions: The "Unbounded Images" unit presents the diverse cross-border possibilities for artists to carry out photography at different levels such as media (print, video, digital, installation, etc.) and multiculturalism. This year, there will be a new work by photography artist Li Ge to Wuhan, "Witness", artist Chen Wenling's "Daily Top"; photographer and musician Qin Hao's "Regular Guest"; lithuanian photographer Tadas Kaz's documentary narrative long story "The Foreseeable Farewell".

"Resonance: Tribute to Robert Frank": This year's special exhibition unit of Jimei Arles, curated in honor of the modern photography master Robert Frank, who died in 2019, this exhibition will exhibit Frank's precious photographic originals collected by Hippa Gallery, artists Huang Qingjun and Rong Rong, the publications of Frank's works collected by the Film Study, and gather Chen Ronghui, Han Lei, Huang Qingjun, Lu Heng, Luo Dan, Mo Yi, Bird head group, Wang Yishu, Wei Lai, Yao Yao, Zeng Han, Zhou Qiang, The works of two generations of Chinese photographers such as Zhu Hao and Frank echo and resonate in video creation.

"Collector's Tales" Section Exhibition: This section presents the collections of important photographic collectors in China or Asia. "Body/Affection - Wang Jun Photography Collection Exhibition" presents the photographic works of 26 photographers at home and abroad collected by Mr. Wang Jun, the founder of the Guangshe Imaging Center.

"Rhythm of China" unit exhibition: Every year, the Jimei Arles Photography Festival joins hands with a Chinese higher art school to show the new power of Chinese photography. This year, "Cartography of Light: Contemporary Image Exhibition from the Photography Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts" and Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts jointly presented the works of 16 photographers from its photography department, including outstanding teachers and students and alumni active in the contemporary art world. The artists are: Ao Guoxing, Feng Mengjin, He Hao, Li Yuanming, Lin Jianjiao, Liu David, Liu Lihong, Sun Xiaochuan, Wang Ningde, Wang Xining, Wu Ting, Xu Dan, Xue Zhijun, Yan Shi, Yu Xingyue, Zhang Meng.

"Japan Film Festival" Unit Exhibition: Collecting Beauty Every Year. The Arles International Photography Season focuses on the photographic situation in an Asian country. Following India (2019), South Korea (2018), indonesia (2017), this year Jimei Arles will focus on Japan, with Ms. Michiko Kasawara, deputy director of the Artizon Museum of the Ishikari Foundation, as the academic host, and the exhibition Insights into the Times. "Japanese Portraits Now" features the works of four Japanese female photographers who are active on the international art stage, namely Ryuko Kawauchi, Makoto Katayama, Chikako Yamashiro, and Rieko Shiga. This exhibition is included in the "2020 Japan-China Photography Culture Exchange Season" project jointly organized by the Japan Cultural Center (Japan Foundation for International Exchange) and the Three Shadows Photography Art Center.

Ten "Jimei Arles Discovery Award" Nomination Exhibition: 10 talented Chinese photographers nominated by 5 curators. The winner of the Jimei Arles Discovery Prize will receive a prize of 100,000 RMB (before tax) and may be invited to present their work at the Arles Photography Festival in France the following year. The nominees in 2020 are: Hua Weicheng), Jiang Pengyi, Li Shun, Ma Haijiao, Ma Liang, Pu Yingwei, Shen Qiying, Sun Ruixiang, Xu Xiaoxiao, zhou Yulong.

In addition, Jimei Arles will welcome the fourth winner of the "Jimei Arles Women Photographer Award", which is the first photography award in China specifically for women. The nominees for 2020 are: Feng Mengjin, Li Yuanming, Lin Jianjiao, Shen Qiying, Wang Xining, Wu Ting, Xu Dan, Xu Xiaoxiao, Yu Xingyue. Previous winners are Luo Yang, Liao Yijun (2018) and Guo Yingguang (2017), all of whom have frequently exhibited on the international photography stage after winning the awards.
