Relations with China

Political relations

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kyrgyzstan on January 5, 1992, the two sides have thoroughly resolved the border issue left over from history, and the relations between the two countries have developed positively, healthily and steadily.

In 2013, Xi Jinping visited Kyrgyzstan and attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, and the two sides established a strategic partnership.

In May 2014, Kyrgyz President Atambayev paid a state visit to China and attended the CICA Summit in Shanghai. In May, Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Zhernbekov, paid a working visit to China. In September, Kyrgyzstani Prime Minister Ottobayev went to Urumqi to attend the 4th China-Eurasia Expo.

In September 2015, Kyrgyz President Atambayev came to China to attend the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. In December, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Saliyev paid a working visit to China and attended the SCO Prime Ministers' Meeting.

In June 2016, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Zenbekov came to China to attend the Summer Davos Forum held in Tianjin. In November, Premier Li Keqiang paid an official visit to Kyrgyzstan and attended the meeting of heads of government (premiers) of the SCO member states.

In January 2017, Kyrgyz President Atambayev visited China. In May, President Atambayev came to China to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

In June 2018, Kyrgyz President Zhernbekov paid his first state visit to China in conjunction with attending the SCO Qingdao Summit.

Economic and trade relations

In 2017, bilateral trade between China and Kyrgyzstan amounted to US$5.448 billion, down 4% year-on-year. Among them, China's exports were US$5.361 billion, down 4.4% year-on-year. China's imports were US$87 million, up 22.2% year-on-year.

From January to November 2018, the trade volume between China and Kyrgyzstan was US$5.154 billion, an increase of 2.5% year-on-year. Among them, China's exports amounted to US$5.103 billion, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year, and imports amounted to US$51 million, down 36% year-on-year.

Humanistic cooperation

The two countries have good cooperation in the fields of education and culture.

The two sides have repeatedly held "Culture Day" activities. China has established 4 Confucius Institutes in Kyrgyzstan. Local exchanges between China and Kyrgyzstan are active, and 17 pairs of friendly provinces, states and cities have been established.
