【Biography of a Famous Teacher】

Cheng Xiang is a special level Chinese teacher, a senior teacher, a national outstanding teacher, and a famous teacher of the national "10,000 people plan". He is the director of the Academic Committee of the National Chinese Language Committee, the vice president of the Beijing Language Society, and the first batch of experts in the expert database of the "National Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. He has published many articles and 14 monographs such as "Commentary on the Garden" and "My Classroom Works".

Cheng Xiangzhi's teaching motto: Be an education with a soul, teach a theoretical language, and be a teacher with a backbone.

I'm going to step into the lecture hall!

It's all starting,

Everything is growing,

I have a teacher's song,

Sing in this wonderful time!

…………

When I graduated from college in 1982, I sang this "Teacher's Song" in my heart and took to the podium of the middle school. Fast forward 39 years, and some of the poems I memorized when I was young are fragmented in my memory, but I can memorize this one in its entirety whenever and wherever I am. It is engraved in the depths of my soul, always inspiring me, calling me, testing me.

"Lessons are bigger than the sky" is my professional belief

When I first started working, the most important thing I thought about was "what kind of teacher to be"

Teachers have different styles, but the most basic evaluation criteria are only one: they can do a good job in class and educate students well. Once, when the school checked the textbook, I was criticized by the teaching director for writing it simply, and I was not convinced. After the old principal knew, he talked to me: "Teacher Cheng, do you believe it or not, the more carefully you prepare the lesson, the more confident you are in the class." "I was speechless because it was a big truth. Since then, I have often measured myself with the ruler "lessons are bigger than the sky". When I immerse myself in lesson preparation, I am often moved, and sometimes moved to tears. It also gave my class a wealth of emotion, and I cried, laughed, and got angry with my students. How true is such a classroom!

The class is bigger than the sky and can test the teacher's educational personality. For decades, I've required myself to stand at the door of a classroom before the bell rings, smiling at every student. There are many management work meetings, but I have never left students in the middle of ad hoc meetings. Someone asked, "The earth has left everyone, so why do you insist on it?" I said, "I understand, but I can't get over the threshold of conscience." "In class, I have also made mistakes: writing wrong words, mispronunciation, and speaking the wrong topics. After the student pointed it out to me, I sincerely thanked him; the student did not point it out, and after I found it myself, I must find time to correct it in class and apologize. People often come to listen to my lessons, and once when a student dozed off, after class the student came to me and said, "Teacher, shame on you." I said, "No shame, going to class is not acting." "I understand that they work a lot and sleep less. I understand the students, and the students like me, and thus like my classes. One year, the school wanted to transfer me halfway, and a student wrote me a note after knowing: "Whoever transferred Teacher Cheng away, I will fight with him!" "Later, I consulted with the school leaders, and if I didn't change them, I would just teach one more class."

The class is bigger than the sky because the classroom has a profound impact on the students' lives. When I first started working, I focused on developing excellent students. Once, I met a well-developed graduate on the street who said, "I wasn't angry when I was in school." I immediately felt guilty and apologized to him. Since then, I have never ignored or rejected the students who are in trouble, and many of them have developed well. When a student was suspended from school due to illness, I asked in class, "Have you forgotten a person at the New Year's Day party?" I said the name, and everyone fell silent. One student raised his hand and said, "Teacher, I called to greet him." The whole class applauded enthusiastically. I said, "It's fate that you spend three years together, you're brothers and sisters." Every time I teach, I always ask the students, "Did you meet the school security guards and cleaners to say hello?" Who cleans the clean campus? Who guards the daily safety of the school? They deserve your respect. "I once wrote a small novel about the cleaner and sent it to the students to read, I gave it to the security guards to read, and I gave them mooncakes to eat. The school organized the canteen master, cleaning, and security guards to go to night school, and I was the first to sign up to tell them Tang poems and Song Ci, and they were very happy.

The fact that the class is bigger than the sky means that the class will lay the foundation for the survival and development of students. I teach students the ways and methods of language learning, and I cultivate students' feelings of love for ancestral Chinese words and characters. I often say: "Chinese is the most beautiful language in the world", "Love Chinese characters is to love the motherland", "The mother tongue is our spiritual home, and if you can't learn your mother tongue, you can't find the way home". I gradually explored a set of effective teaching methods, so that different students in the classroom to continuously achieve the improvement and development of language literacy: some students are not good at oral expression, after classroom exercise can export into chapters; some students have low self-esteem, I encourage him, help him revise and recommend publication, he is confident... Over the years, I have revised, recommended, published, and won dozens of student works.

The fact that the class is bigger than the sky means that the class can form a beautiful interpersonal relationship between people. I have heard students shouting "Teacher Cheng" on the campus of Peking University and Tsinghua University, I have heard someone shouting "Teacher Cheng" while waiting at the Us airport, I have heard someone shouting "Teacher Cheng" during my visit to Cambridge University, and I have watched the master repair the motorcycle on the road, he raised his head and shouted "Teacher Cheng"! After graduating for many years, we still keep in touch, and every New Year's Day students will come to see me or Greet me on WeChat. I don't know how much language plays a role in them, but I know that this teacher-student relationship is perfect.

"Turning to a multi-teacher" is always on the road of learning

I am glad that I have met many seniors.

When I first stepped on the stage, Teacher Jia Dexiu, the head of the old teaching and research team of Tai'an Sixth Middle School, gave me a lot of guidance. He let me know which language magazines were in China and asked me to turn them over frequently; he put the burden of mid-term and final propositions on me, so that I quickly became familiar with the laws of propositions; he took me to my brother school to listen to famous teachers and understand the true meaning of language teaching; he also recommended me to take over as the leader of the group before retiring. Mr. Jia is the initiator of my career.

Teacher Wu Xintian is my mentor. Before he was born, he was a language teacher and researcher in Shandong Province, he found me and tried his best to cultivate me: he went to the school to guide me in class, let me preside over the 6-year language unit teaching reform experimental project; he asked me to learn the language education ideas of Ye Shengtao, Lü Shuxiang and Zhang Zhigong, and comprehensively improve my own literacy; he provided me with various exercise opportunities, from Tai'an City to Shandong Province, and then to the whole country. On the train, he discussed the rules of classroom teaching with me; at 12 o'clock in the evening, he was still helping me to deliberate on the lesson plan... I am so grateful for my fatherly care! Teacher Wu hoped that I could succeed him as a language teacher and researcher in Shandong Province, but when I entered Beijing by mistake, he also fully understood and fully supported me. When he hears people praising me, he will call me to share that relief; when he hears others criticize me, he will also call me to warn me. Without Teacher Wu's teaching, I wouldn't be where I am today!

When he came to Beijing, the first time he went to Teacher Zhang Xiong's house, he said, "Cheng Xiang, I have accepted you as an apprentice." "Since then, I have received too many true transmissions from Teacher Zhang. He gave me his calligraphy works and books and asked me to work with him to compile books and textbooks. As soon as I was confused, I called him for advice, and he spoke for half an hour. Teacher Zhang is not in good health, but he always laughs when he sees me. Later, his eyesight became worse and worse, but he often emailed materials for me to learn. For 20 years, every year I went to visit Teacher Zhang, and he told me the story of the "Three Elders" and the story of his grandfather Zhang Yu... Teacher Zhang opened a door to scholarship for me: treating language teaching with an academic vision, the position of culture, the position of mother tongue, and the means of art! As a result, my professional development was "open in the middle"! When I presented mr. Shuyuan, a 1 million-word research result that had taken more than ten years of painstaking efforts, to mr. Shuyuan Translation, he smiled with relief.

On the road of professional development, I also received the guidance of Liu Guozheng, Yu Yi, Song Suiliang, Chen Jinming, Qian Menglong, Ning Hongbin, Rao Jieteng, Hong Zhentao and other language speakers of the older generation, and took many detours. Whenever I think back to those scenes, I am deeply moved. There are also many friends of the same age, or benevolent brothers, or virtuous brothers, who have helped, guided and inspired me a lot. I'm glad I've met so many noble people.

I often hear people complain that fate is bad and they don't meet noble people. I think that there are some nobles, but they will not automatically come to help you. It depends on whether you are sincere and humble, whether you are kind and simple, whether you are pure and clear, whether you are studious and diligent, and whether you respect your predecessors and colleagues from the bottom of your heart. Influenced by my family since I was a child, I know a truth: be generous to others. Han Yu said: "The gentleman of the ancients also has a heavy responsibility for himself, and his treatment of others is light. "Who doesn't have flaws and inadequacies? I have a good idea, I think it is a warning, and what I want to learn is his strengths.

I don't like to argue openly with people, especially I don't like to get carried away after refuting others. When I encountered a "scare" scene, I quietly left or remained silent. Some people say that this is sleek, I do not accept, should be called "round sum". I like the outer circle inside the square, not the outer square inside the circle. When I lived on the sixth floor, I often dragged a mop from the sixth floor to the first floor and wiped the railing from the sixth floor to the first floor; I liked to say hello and chat with my neighbors; at school, I often chatted with cleaners and security guards; I wrote the preface to my colleagues' manuscripts on the first day of the New Year; I revised the papers of young teachers in my hospital bed... I think good humanity is important.

I officially named my study "Six Hearts" in the year of "Knowing the Mandate of Heaven". Some people joke that half-heartedness is spurned, but you have six hearts. I explained: "Be loyal to the motherland, be intoxicated with the cause, serve your parents with filial piety, dedicate yourself to your wife and children with love, treat your friends sincerely, and keep your conscience behind yourself." "That year I went to Jinan to see Teacher Wu Xintian, and at that time he could not speak normally, but he took a book from the drawer with a trembling hand and opened it to me, and the original title page wrote my explanation of the meaning of "Six Hearts". When my nose was sore, I wanted to cry.

At the end of the book, I will end it with "The Teacher's Song":

I would like to have a full head of white hair,

The flowers planted for mankind are as splendid as brocade;

I would like to devote my life's energy,

In exchange for the pillars of the motherland!

How I wanted to work for three hundred years,

- If only I had five times as much life!
