J· K. Rowling Harvard University Lecture: The Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination

Harry Potter author J. Ms. K. Rowling gave a speech on "The Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination" at a Harvard University commencement. She barely talked about Harry Potter, but about a very difficult time in her youth and her thoughts on life.

If I could turn back the clock, she said, I would tell my 21-year-old self that if you want to be happy, you have to understand that life is not about what you get or what you achieve. Certificates and academic resumes these things do not equal your life. Many people my age, or older than me, don't figure out the difference. Alive, hard and complicated, who can fully control. Acknowledging this modestly will make you not be shocked and see through the vicissitudes of the world.
