Argentina "Tango Lesson" Micro Film Sequel II - "Return of Students from Travel"

author:Argentine Tango Shelley Hou

There was a previous article to share with you the work of my Argentine Art University classmates, a black and white silent micro-film about the first tango lesson she gave to her students.

Recently, she has a second new work, entitled "The Return of a Student's Journey" (El Alumino quevolve de gira), about the story of her students who have the opportunity to go to Paris to teach tango and come back to visit her at home.

In just a few minutes, the micro-film not only expresses elements related to tango, but also shows some cultural connotations, one of which is argentina's cultural mentality of too much worship of European countries, which can be clearly felt in several places in the video.

First, at the beginning of the video, Eva(the female teacher in the video) tries a pair of tango shoes on her feet and knocks on the door of Eva's house with a box printed with the word "Paris" in her hand. This box has a different value because of the word "Paris", which makes the person carrying it feel very proud.

Second, when Tristan entered the house, he gave Teacher Eva a very polite kiss, and it seems that after returning from the trip, he was deeply influenced by European culture, and also showed the Admiration of European culture by Argentines. (There is no kissing ceremony in Argentina).

Third, souvenirs that are representative of Europe are far more popular than gifts with practicality. In the video, when Tristan pulls out an electric iron, the other two are dismissive. When he pulled out an iconic Parisian souvenir, the Eiffel Tower, the other two were overjoyed.

This is also the norm in Argentina's local tango circle. In Argentina, except for famous teachers or teachers who have won awards in competitions, it is difficult for ordinary local tango dancers to have the opportunity to teach in Europe. So if a tango dancer goes to teach in a European city, it is a very proud thing, as if adding a very glorious stroke to his tango resume.

In addition to the ironic expression of the European feelings of Argentines, this micro-film mainly revolves around the topic of tango itself, which very realistically reflects the local tango situation in Argentina.

First, after Tristan delivered the gift, he couldn't wait to show off his newly learned tango steps (elnuevo paso). This is common in local tango circles. Some tango friends have not been seen for a long time, especially friends who have returned from abroad, and they will eagerly show their friends the newly learned dance steps, saying that it is for the purpose of competition, but in fact, it is also to show it and satisfy their desire for performance.

Second, eva is definitely a good teacher in the video who "adapts to things". With the gift of the "Eiffel Tower", he gave himself teaching inspiration and explained to his new students how to do the spin (elgiro).

Three, Eva let the two boys practice hugging between them (elabrazo). This situation is actually very common in Argentina, where boys and boys practice with each other, but the mutual acceptance between straight men is not so high

Fourth, tango old friends reunite, the first thing is of course to go to the dance party to dance. The microfilm ends with Eva and her two students going out to dance together.

Next, please enjoy the micro-film:
