On May 15th, more than 70 people from the art circles inside and outside Shaanxi Province gathered in Xi'an to hold a memorial service for the famous art educator Mr. Hu Ming, deeply remembering his extraordinary life of dedication to education. Wang Xijing, president of the Shaanxi Provincial Chinese Painting Society, Li Zhijun, secretary of the Party Committee of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Guo Xianlu, chairman of the Shaanxi Artists Association, Zhu Duhui, president of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Zhang Binbin, former secretary of the Party Committee of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Zhu Kexiao, cheng zheng, a famous art critic, and other student representatives of Mr. Hu Ming, responsible persons of art institutions such as the Shaanxi Provincial Art Association, the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, and the Shaanxi Provincial Chinese Painting Society, as well as representatives of Mr. Hu Ming's family attended the memorial service.
Mr. Hu Ming was born in March 1930 in Chang'an County, Shaanxi Province, and died in Xi'an on April 12, 2021, at the age of 92. In 1953, he graduated from the former Northwest Military and Political University (the predecessor of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts), he was the first graduate of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, and stayed on to teach. He has successively participated in the establishment of the Affiliated Middle School of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, the Department of Chinese Painting, and the Department of Fine Arts, served as the head of the department and the teaching work of drawing, Chinese painting, creation, etc., and served as the dean of the Golden Autumn Training Branch of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the director of the Department of Art Education of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, the vice president of the Shaanxi Provincial Art Education Research Association, the art consultant of the Chinese Peasant Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, the consultant of the Shaanxi Branch of the China University of Calligraphy and Painting, and the dean of the Shaanxi Provincial Calligraphy and Painting Training Institute.
While intensively teaching and managing, Mr. Hu Ming did not forget to create paintings. His works include "Taibai Ruixue", "Zaoyuan Red Sun", "Yellow River Ancient Road", "Jialing RiverSide", "Li River New Green" and so on. His representative works include the oil painting "Breeder", which was selected for the national and northwest 5 provinces and regions touring art exhibition in 1954, won the second prize of the creation competition, and was included in the compilation of the "Northwest Five Provinces and Regions Art Exhibition Works Anthology". The Chinese paintings "Red Sun in Zaoyuan Garden" and "On the Shore of the Yellow River" were selected into the "Chinese Painting Collection of the Higher Academy of Art of China" and published by Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House. There are also more than 100 works such as the Chinese painting "Jialing Riverside", which have been exhibited and published at home and abroad. Some commentators praised his landscape paintings as "exquisite and contain a strong poetic interest".
Before mr. Hu Ming's death, he instructed his children not to carry out ceremonies such as farewell and memorial services, which were spontaneously organized by Hu Ming's students and students under the initiative, personal funding and advocacy of his students and famous painter Wang Xijing, with the aim of promoting the traditional virtues of respecting teachers and re-teaching, and inspiring more young generations to continue to contribute to the cause of Shaanxi and even Chinese art.
At the memorial meeting, the participants spoke one after another, recalling Mr. Hu Ming's noble teacher virtue of teaching and educating people and devotion to art and art, and at the same time highly praising his contributions to the establishment of the Affiliated Middle School of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, the Department of Chinese Painting, and the Department of Normal Arts, and the cause of China's higher art education.
"Teacher Hu is my mentor, the achievements of our students are our works, and for the teachers, his works are his students." Mr. Hu Ming, who was the class teacher of Wang Xijing when he was in the attached middle school of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, fondly recalled the nearly 60 years of their teachers and students, and the special teacher-student feelings aroused strong resonance among the participants. Wang Xijing said that he hopes that through today's memorial meeting, while remembering The great personality of Teacher Hu, he will be able to inherit his ordinary and great personality spirit, which is also an important spiritual strength and spiritual wealth of our Chang'an Painting School and the Chang'an Painting Circle. "Teacher Hu is a great people's art educator, and he will always live in our hearts."
Teacher Hu Ming is a teacher of two generations of Ji Junmin's family, and his father Ji Qinghai is a student of Teacher Hu, as are the three brothers. His father devoted his life to the cause of Chinese painting and achieved certain achievements; his eldest brother and second brother also worked in the painting industry for decades and made achievements; Ji Junmin, who graduated from the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, served as a middle school art teacher. "It can be said that Teacher Hu is the leader and founder of our cause, and without Teacher Hu, we would not have everything we have today." Ji Junmin said excitedly.
Teacher Hu Ming has been in Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts for 60 years, training students all over the world, and many people have achieved great success in the industry. Also present at the memorial service and speaking were Zhu Duhui, Guo Xianlu, Li Zhijun, Zhang Binbin, Zhu Kexiao, Wang Zhonglian, Zhang Guolong, Wang Fei, Shi Tao, Chen Enhui, Cheng Zheng, Li Yutian, etc. The three representatives of xi'an Academy of Fine Arts expressed their deep remembrance of their mentors through videos and text messages.
"We are truly proud to have such a beloved father." Mr. Hu Ming's son, Hu Bing, vice president of the Shaanxi Provincial Sculpture Institute, spoke on behalf of the family and thanked the meeting, recalling his father's sincere teaching and profound influence on his children and students during his lifetime. He said that his father was engaged in the most glorious cause under the sun, contributed his life to the cause of art education, and practiced the highest realm of "being a teacher" with his own practical actions.
The event was hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Chinese Painting Society, with Luo Ning, vice president and vice chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Artists Association, as the main person in charge and presided over the memorial service, with the full support of President Wang Zhiping and the hard work of meidao art museum.
