As with all other confirmed cases, WHO and relevant agencies are doing their utmost to locate all contacts of this case in order to provide them with vaccines and test their health status.

WHO Regional Director for Africa Rebecca Morty said: "WHO has been working side by side with the DRC health sector for more than 18 months and is currently investigating this latest case ... While the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic presents additional challenges, we will continue to work together until it is confirmed that the Ebola outbreak is over. ”

Ebola haemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease caused by the Ebola virus, which itself has a fatality rate of around 50%, but can reach about 90% in areas with a weak medical base. The disease has been on the back of intermittent small outbreaks in western Africa since the 1990s, but there was a major outbreak between 2014 and 2016.

In August 2018, there was another outbreak of Ebola in the kivu region of eastern DRC, with 3,456 people confirmed so far, including 2,276 deaths.

The DRC previously had the "last" confirmed Ebola patient cured on March 2 local time and discharged the next day. According to WHO standards, the outbreak could have been declared over on 13 April, 42 days after the patient was cured.
