Causes of rumen bloating in bovines and a variety of treatments

This disease, also known as rumen pod, is a gas excretion disorder disease, due to the accumulation of gas in the rumen in a large number of gases, resulting in an increase in rumen capacity positivity, increased pressure, gastric wall expansion, seriously affecting the heart, lung function and life-threatening. There are two types: acute and chronic.

(1) The cause of acute rumen bloating is due to cattle eating a large amount of fermentable feed and drinking a large amount of water, and a large amount of gas is rapidly generated in the stomach, causing the rumen to expand sharply, such as young and juicy grass with dew or leguminous forage, lees and frozen juicy feed or spoiled feed. Chronic rumen bloating is mostly secondary to various diseases of the esophagus, anterior stomach, true stomach, and intestines.

(2) Symptoms of acute rumen bloating: the diseased cattle are more than in the feeding or shortly after the feeding of the sudden onset, the performance is uneasy, looking back at the abdomen, the hind limbs kick the abdomen, the back and waist arch, the abdomen rapidly expands, the bulge of the hypoknife is raised, the left side is more obvious, can be as high as the hip joint or the dorsal midline, the rumination and belching stop, the palpation of the bulge is tense and elastic, the percussion is drumming, and the rumen percussion is weakened. High breathing difficulties, rapid heartbeat, visible mucosa bluish-purple. In the later stage, the sick cattle open their mouths and breathe, stand unsteadily or lie on the ground, and if they are not treated in time, they will soon die of suffocation or cardiac paralysis. Chronic rumen bloating: the left abdomen of the sick cow is repeatedly expanded, the symptoms are good and bad, emaciated and debilitating. Rumen peristalsis and rumination are reduced, often lasting weeks or even months.

(3) Diagnosis can be made in time based on clinical symptoms and etiological analysis, and the sick cattle can make a diagnosis in time due to eating a large amount of tender and juicy feed or alfalfa, clover, fermented beer lees, etc. before flowering.

(iv) Prevention and control 1. The following methods of treatment are available for acute cases. (1) First of all, the patient cattle with significant expansion of the abdominal circumference and life-threatening should be punctured with rumen puncture and put into antiseptic fermentation agents. (2) Folk remedies: when a rumen gas occurs after eating beans and drinking water, the bull's head can be lowered, and the oral and throat parts can be stimulated with a stick, so that the cow will produce a vicious vomiting action, discharge the gas, and achieve the purpose of eliminating the account. (3) Slow diarrhea and anti-fermentation: adult cattle with paraffin oil or cooked soybean oil 1500 ~ 2000 ml, add turpentine 50 ml, a gastric tube to administer or irrigation. Use once a day, 2 times a day. (4) For acute acidic rumen bloating caused by eating too many carbohydrates, magnesium oxide of 100 grams, often water, one filling. For chronic rumen bloating, it can be treated with the following methods. (1) Slow diarrhea and anti-fermentation: paraffin oil or cooked soybean oil 1000 ~ 2000 ml, irrigation, once a day, for 2 days. (2) Cooked soybean oil 1000 ~ 2000 ml, sodium sulfate 300 grams (pregnant cattle are contraindicated, pregnant cows can be used alone with cooked soybean oil to add amount of irrigation), use hot water to dissolve sodium sulfate, and take it together. Once a day for 2 consecutive days. (3) Folk remedies: wooden sticks coated with pine distillate or sauce can be attached to the mouth, and the ends of the wooden sticks are tied behind the bull's head with a thin rope, so that the cows continue to chew, promote belching, and achieve the purpose of dissipating gas and stopping accounts. (4) Anti-fermentation prescription: dilute hydrochloric acid 20 ml, alcohol 50 ml, coal phenol soap solution 10 ml after mixing, diluted with water 50 ~ 100 times, gastric tube irrigation, once a day. (5) Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory: intravenous injection of chlortetracycline 5 to 10 mg / kg body weight / day, dissolved with isotonic sugar, continuous use for 3 to 5 days. (6) Traditional Chinese medicine to stop qi and eliminate accounts, enhance rumen function: 50 grams of dang ginseng, 40 grams of poria and baishu, 30 grams each of tangerine peel, green peel, three immortals, chuanpu, 20 grams each of half summer, laizi, licorice, boiled water, once a day, with 3 doses. 2. Prevention (1) Pre-feeding hay: At night or before grazing, pre-feed hay containing more fiber (Sudan grass, oat hay, straw, dried corn straw, etc.). (2) Mowing and feeding: For forage that is in danger of swelling, it should be cut first, dried until Yan and then fed. When grazing, young legumes should be avoided and dangerous opportunities for grazing after rain. (3) Prevent excessive intake of concentrates.
