Wang Fuzhou, born in 1935 in Xihua County, Henan Province, was admitted to Huaiyang Middle School in 1952, to the Petroleum Geology Survey Department of Beijing Institute of Geology in 1954, and was selected to join the Chinese mountaineering team in the same year, which opened his extraordinary years.

In March 1960, the first mountaineering team of New China came to the foot of Mount Everest. After three adaptive marches, assault the main peak on the fourth march. On May 25, after more than 20 consecutive hours without oxygen, lost contact with the base camp, and ran out of food, Wang Fuzhou and two teammates climbed to the summit of Mount Everest at 4:20 a.m. and left the five-star red flag at the summit.
Wang Fuzhou once recalled, "1960 was the most difficult period in our country. Shouldering the heavy trust of the party and the country and the aspirations of the people, we successfully conquered Mount Everest for the first time, a feat that greatly encouraged the courage of the people of the whole country to overcome difficulties. ”
He won the Sports Medal of Honor twice in 1960 and 1964, and from 1979 he was the secretary general of the China Mountaineering Association, and from 1993 to 1995, he was the director of the Mountaineering Management Center of the State General Administration of Sport, and the chairman of the China Mountaineering Association.
On July 19, 2015, Wang Fuzhou passed away due to illness. His daughter Wang Yi said in an interview with dahe network reporters that her father had told her several times about her mood when he first brought the five-star red flag to the top of Mount Everest. They were excited and joyful at the time, and their father solemnly wrote: Wang Fuzhou and the other three climbed Mount Everest at 4:20 on May 25, 1960! It was as if I saw the summit of Mount Everest, and the three heroes who stood tall in the sky solemnly declared to the world with a pure heart for the party, the motherland, and the people: The Chinese people who stand up are invincible. ”

About 8600 meters on the north slope of Mount Everest is known as the "second step", which is an almost vertical cliff more than 30 meters high. At that time, after the four members of the team who attacked the summit, Wang Fuzhou, Qu Yinhua, Liu Lianman, and Kampot reached the "second step", they created a miracle by taking the ladder.

As an alumnus who went out from Huaiyang Middle School in Zhoukou, Henan, in order to carry forward the spirit of Mountaineering of Wang Fuzhou, the school established the "Fuzhou Class" in 2011. Li Tao, a senior teacher and historian at Huaiyang Middle School, said in an interview with Dahe Network reporter: "The main purpose is to commemorate Wang Fuzhou's feat of climbing Mount Everest and encourage the students of the whole school to carry forward the mountaineering spirit of 'not afraid of difficulties, tenacious struggle, unity and cooperation, and courage to climb the peak'." ”
In 2013, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the founding of Huaiyang Middle School, Wang Fuzhou donated 11 precious souvenirs of mountaineering that he used to his alma mater. "At that time, I accompanied Mr. Wang Lao to visit the campus and visit the school history museum, and he met with the students of the Fuzhou class and encouraged the students to study hard and serve the motherland in the future." Li Tao said.
"Living by my father's side and getting close to the heroic Chinese mountaineering team, they trained hard, fought in unity, selflessly forgot themselves, and dared to climb, casting the Chinese mountaineering spirit with Chinese characteristics, the five-star red flag reflected their struggle, and their spirit inspired and influenced me to choose my own life goals and strive to achieve it." Wang Yi said that in his father's eighty years of life, he inherited the simplicity of the people of Henan. Throughout her life, her father was faithful and sincere, without complaint or regret, before others, contented and grateful, and these brilliance of humanity were the inexhaustible spiritual wealth of her life.
