On Saturday, sheikh Mohammed, the uae's vice president and Dubai chief, approved Hatta's 5-year development plan, and the sheikh has appointed a standing committee to oversee Hada's development.

New beaches, lakes, funicular systems, hotel facilities, 120 km of cycle paths and the longest mountain road in the country are all in the project.

The sheikh said the plan was to create an integrated development model that would benefit the people of Hada and would turn Hatta into a larger tourist destination.

According to the master plan, the funicular system alone can serve 1 million passengers per year.

What projects are included in Hatta's 5-year development plan?

> A cable-driven ropeway, a first in the region, that will help visitors get to the dam site;

> the longest mountain bike trail in the UAE for international competitions;

> Hada Beach Program;

> Sustainable hotels;

> Mountainside health resort;

> Unique modern staircase leading to the dam.

The main objectives of the master plan

> Protect the heritage and natural environment of the region;

> Encourage tourism and sports in mountain areas;

> to build Hatta into a year-round tourist destination;

> Improving public facilities and services for residents and visitors;

> develop a sustainable transport system, including direct bus services from Dubai to Hatta, and allow passengers to bring bicycles and scooters;

> Deploy buses to monumental sites such as Wadi Hub, Hatta Dam, Heritage Village and Al Tal Park;

> provide on-demand bus services and smart car rental services, and tourists can rent vehicles by the hour;

> Build bikes and pedal lanes in a 120 km network of main attractions and residential areas.
