Due to the ten-year ban on fishing in the Yangtze River, the ecological environment of the Yangtze River waters has been greatly improved in the past few years. No, there are many small crabs growing in the tidal flats at the mouth of the Yangtze River, and when they first met, I really didn't know which kind of crab they belonged to, what their names were.
As you walk along the riverbank, you can hear the sound of "rustling" in the reeds and grass on the riverside beach, and in the distance it looks like a piece of ants moving. However, when you get closer, you can find that the original sound should be a densely packed small animal, that is, a small crab formed in a rapid run. By this time, they had already burrowed into the cave.
However, when you stand still and look closely at the grass, you will find that there are still a few larger crabs that are still hidden by the blades of grass, not burrowing into the hole, and are secretly observing your every move. When you lean closer, it will raise two large red pliers high and do the defense and attack on you as if ready for battle, but when you get closer, it will quickly run deep into the grass or simply hide in the hole...
All the crabs, not very large, held up two large red and disproportionately large pliers. The large pliers are not used to walk, but to walk quickly by two rows of small crab claws on either side of the body. They all have many small holes in the wet sand on the shore, which is probably their home for hiding.
I recorded a video and posted it to the group, and someone told it was a "red pincer crab".
After Baidu on the Internet, I learned that "the red pincer crab lives on the beach by the sea and has a big red claw", but this crab lives on the shore of the estuary of the Yangtze River and has two red pincers, so it should not be a "red pincer crab".
So I imagined in my mind that these little crabs live at the port of the Yangtze River, then called "Jiangkou crabs", haha.
However, a closer search of Baidu revealed that there are two red claws, living on the banks of coastal freshwater rivers, which should be called "red mantis arm crab", alias "red mantis arm hand crab" and "red claw phaset crab".
According to the data, the red mantis arm crab is widely distributed in East Korea, Japan, Singapore and other countries, and is mainly distributed in Guangdong, Taiwan, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiaozhou Bay and other regions in China. They often burrow in the mudflats, mud banks and nearshore swamps of offshore freshwater rivers, and sometimes climb tree trunks.
It turns out that these cute little animals with two red claws are also held high in these walks, called "red mantis arm crabs", do you know?
