Taipei, March 16 (China News Service) -- Cao Xianshao, spokesman for the Taipei Municipal Zoo, said on the 16th that a red monkey escaped on the 15th. This is the eighth animal escape in the park in the past five years, and the park will review the facilities and strengthen the training of relevant personnel in the future.

According to the Central News Agency, The United News Network and other Taiwan media reports, Cao Xianshao said that at about 11:00 a.m. on the 15th, the red monkey "male road" took advantage of the gap in which the nursery staff did not plug the pins of the barn to escape, it moved quickly, and it was good at climbing trees, and quickly disappeared into the woods.

The zoo has set up 7 trap cages. Cao Xianshao said that on the afternoon of the 16th, some colleagues witnessed the "male road" near the zoo's ring road, and they will gather colleagues to support the search, hoping to find it quickly.

Cao Xianshao said that the animal escape is related to the artificial negligence of the conservation staff, and now the first priority is to retrieve the animals, and then discuss after the personnel are punished, and then further think about the establishment of the "anti-stupidity mechanism" of the gate insertion, and strengthen the training of relevant personnel.

The "male" is an 8-year-old and 7-month-old male red monkey with a body length of about 85 cm. Cao Xianshao said that the red monkey belongs to a non-ferocious animal and a species that is not highly dangerous. The escaped red monkeys have been raised by humans for a long time, and the chances of adapting to the wild are not high, but even if they can adapt, they should not let the red monkeys belonging to alien species live in the wild, otherwise they may have serious consequences for Taiwan's ecology.

According to reports, Taipei Municipal Zoo has a total of eight animal escape records in the past five years, involving gibbons, chimpanzees, capuchin monkeys, small anteaters, small clawed otters, stone tigers and so on. With the exception of the red monkeys who escaped this time, the rest of the animals were retrieved or returned to the zoo on their own. (End)
