Hello aquarists, I am a fish breeder, more ornamental fish breeding, breeding practice knowledge, please pay attention to. Let's raise water simply and raise fish easily!
In the large family of ornamental fish, there are some species, if you choose to farm indoors, they are not suitable for using deep aquarium feeding, this type of ornamental fish concentrated in the following:
He is a strong jumper, often enjoys moving away from the water, escaping from prison without permission, or enjoys fighting, courtship and playing on the shoals.
One of the most famous, should be mudskippers, they are more suitable for living in the shoals, so they are raised in shallow water tanks, in order to create a suitable living environment for their habits.

mudskipper is an authentic fish, not an amphibian

Mudskipper is such as fake fish, more aliases, such as: jumping fish, mud monkey, stone monkey, flower jump, etc., they belong to the gobies suborder, mudskipper fish, there are currently more than 20 kinds of in the world, mainly divided into four categories.
They are distributed in many warm waters in China, and most of the mudskippers are soda fish, that is, they can live in both seawater and fresh water, and a very small part of them live completely in fresh water.
However, there are many completely desalinated mudskippers on the market, and if we want to raise them in fresh water, it is better to choose these desalinated species.
Ordinary fish cannot breathe without water, but we also know that there are many fish that can already cross this obstacle, such as: climbing perch, lungfish, some catfish, and even scavengers, they are temporarily away from the water or even in a certain period of time, there will be no problem.
The main reason why mudskippers are mistaken for amphibians is that they often live on the shore.
< h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" > hundreds of millions of years of evolution, resulting in various internal and external transformations of mudskippers

After hundreds of millions of years of evolution, mudskippers have finally chosen to mate, breed and play, and forage on shore because they differ from the body structure of other fish.
First of all, as fish living in the water, mudskippers will choose to breathe with gills, and when they carry out a series of activities on the shore, they will activate another system, or alternative breathing method.
Their skin surface, mouth, gill cavity inner wall, distributed with relatively fine capillaries, oxygen can be directly into the bloodstream, in order to be able to move freely on land, mudskipper pectoral fin and tail fin has also undergone different degrees of changes, which has a certain similarity with the climbing perch we talked about earlier.
In other words, the fins become their hands and feet, enough to support their bodies, and allow them to quickly come and go in the wetlands on the shore, this strange structure makes them more clumsy in the water and agile on land.
Even two meters away, we found the figure of mudskippers, and it would be difficult to catch them, and they would slip away in the blink of an eye.
This is because they can use their strong tails as a support, jump in the air in an instant, jump several centimeters high from the ground, so they have the nickname of jumping fish, and thus have a more popular stunt.

all the activities on the shore, but became the main battlefield of their lives

As for why mudskippers suddenly choose to live ashore, we don't know, this is the result of hundreds of millions of years of optimization choices by people's ancestors, and we may not be able to guess the idea here.
All in all, mudskippers can find food, play, play, and courtship breeding on the shore.
Each adult mudskipper will build its own nest on the shore, most of this work is done by the male fish, they will dig up the sediment with their mouths and then transport it away, and finally complete the delivery room, they are a group of happy little fresh meats that can successfully get married without buying a car or a house, and everything is built by themselves.
Then the male mudskipper will start to open a variety of boastful behaviors around the nest, including stretching the dorsal fin, reaching the best body color, yelling, fighting each other, etc., in order to attract the attention of the female mudskipper, and then they will successfully find a mate to complete the marriage, and soon, the hatched small mudskipper will be active on the beach...
Some mudskippers have a certain vegetarian tendency, but most of the mudskippers are carnivorous, and many of them, the main source of food is that various small life on the beach or river beach, such as sand silkworms, small crabs and other hairy, crustaceans or small terrestrial insects such as ants and grasshoppers, these habits are somewhat similar to the gobies we see.

choose land and water tank feeding, need to landscaping, need to keep shoals, but also need to be anti-jumping

Feeding mudskippers is best based on land tanks, which can properly maintain a certain water flow, and the feeding space must be relatively wide, and a certain amount of bottom sand and landscaping needs to be set up, and it is more necessary to have a wide beach environment.
Because their jumping ability is very strong and not suitable for breeding with high water levels, the location of the shoal is best placed in the center of the amphibious tank, at least a little farther from the edge of the tank.
If it is not a land and water tank environment, it is also necessary to place stones and other items to provide them with land, which needs to be based on their living habits, and it is better to be able to let them have a place to build their own nests, which is more perfect.
It is reasonable to say that mudskippers living on land are not afraid of lack of oxygen, but the water environment in which they are raised must ensure that the water quality is fresh and there must be a certain circulating filtration system, just because the water level of feeding them is shallow, this water quality is actually more difficult to control, and the oxygen content in the water also needs to be guaranteed.
Freshwater mudskippers sold on the market are generally redfin mudskippers, their staple food is meat, we can feed them some such as black shell shrimp, red worms, harvest shrimp, yellow mealworms, and a variety of delicious small fish and shrimp, try not to feed floating fish feed.
At the same time, according to the reaction of many aquarists who have raised mudskippers, their interaction and food grabbing are very good, and they will soon be familiar with the owner, in order to cultivate their interaction, we can use tweezers to feed them with small fish shrimp or fish worms, do not throw food in the water, they will scramble to receive food from the hands of the fish owner on the shoal, and we will also see the feeding scene of them jumping up.
Most mudskippers are not suitable for low temperature rearing, and the best adaptation temperature range is also around 20 degrees, otherwise they will not be in any good condition, of course, raising them must be careful of the problem of jailbreaking.
There is also, such a cute little life, we can either raise them as pets, or let them multiply in nature, don't always think about eating, eating, eating, such a small thing of ten centimeters, how much to eat is considered a head?
In many of the introductions to mudskippers, without exception, one thing is mentioned, that is:
After hundreds of millions of years of evolution, after landing hard, the biggest natural enemy they face is not seabirds, crabs, turtles, but us humans...
I am a veteran of fish farming, more ornamental fish problems please pay attention, thank you!
