The erection of a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in Tainan Park was boycotted by the Green Camp, and Huang Weizhe: It will not be erected until there is a consensus

After the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in the Tang Dezhang Memorial Park was torn down in 2014, the Tainan city government had planned to re-erect it in Tainan Park on November 12, but it caused a strong backlash from "pro-independence" groups and will call on the public to protest at the scene.

Dpp city councilor Cai Suqiujin questioned today, concerned about the re-erection of the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen, Huang Weizhe claimed in response to the inquiry that from the standpoint of respecting the parliament and respecting the will of the people, the municipal government must take action, but many municipal work must achieve social consensus, and the social consensus on the re-erection of the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen is still very chaotic, and at present it will try to seek social consensus, taking the rights and interests of the largest number of citizens into consideration, and before the social consensus is obtained, the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen will not be re-erected.

Wang Jiazhen, a member of the Kuomintang City Council of China, criticized Huang Weizhe today, saying that his past promises to the parliament and the citizens could not be fulfilled now, simply dishonest and irresponsible, and the result of promising to be the mayor of the whole people was a great loss of the hearts of the citizens, questioning "Does Mayor Huang not want to be the mayor of Tainan, but only wants to be the mayor of 'Taiwan independence'?" ”

In September 2013, the Tainan municipal government had planned to relocate the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in the Tang Dezhang Memorial Park, but this triggered a camp protest in the Blue Camp, which was not evacuated until the Tainan City Monuments and Historical Buildings Settlement Cultural Landscape Review Committee made a decision to suspend the relocation. In April of the following year, the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen was forcibly torn off by ropes, and the sabotage group was the "Taiwan Independence" group from Taipei, the "Referendum Alliance for the Protection of Taiwan."
