The male has non-breeding feathers with brownish head and back. The female is duller than the male , with grey-brown headlines , black crowns , blackish brown upper backs with brown feathers , and lighter underparts. The eyes are dark brown and the feet are fleshy brown.
Its habits are mainly inhabited in mountainous and plain woodlands, but also in forest edges, shrublands and urban gardens. It is often active in groups, and in winter it often forms very large groups, up to thousands. Feed in trees, bushes or on the ground, jumping forward as the ground moves. The main food is plant seeds, grass seeds, fruits, etc., and insects are mainly eaten during the breeding period. Traveling birds or winter migratory birds. It is common in winter and is found from the top of Mount Taishan to the urban area, the outskirts of the city and the Wen River Basin.
