The poem of the Tang Dynasty poet Pi Rixiu said
Spring from the wild birds to sell, the day is still idle ape drinking.
Singer Ren Xianqi sang
In the spring, the flowers bloom and the birds are free.
Anyway April days on earth
It's a good season for birds and flowers

Nanjing is beautiful in mountains and waters, rich in bird resources, do you want to know which birds in Nanjing are singing around now? How many species of birds are there in the branches with us?
In 2019, the "Bird Love Week" in Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City is coming, let's walk into nature together and recognize the most familiar "strangers" around us!
4 million "guests"
"Bird Love Week" is an activity carried out by China to protect birds and maintain the natural ecological balance. Jiangsu Province designates April 20-26 as "Bird Love Week" every year. "Pay attention to the migration of migratory birds and maintain the community of life" is the theme of this year's "Bird Love Week" in Jiangsu Province. This year's "Bird Love Week" activities were hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Forestry Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Green gardens and gardens, the Shanghai Office of the Import and Export Administration Office of the People's Republic of China on Endangered Species, and hosted by the Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo.

Jiangsu Province spans two climatic zones in the north and south, with plains, mountains, crisscrossing rivers and lakes, and a large area of wetlands along the beach and swamps, and bird resources are very rich. According to statistics, the birds distributed in Jiangsu Province include gray magpies, owls and other agricultural and forestry birds, as well as rare birds such as red-crowned cranes, swans and black-billed gulls, a total of 448 species, accounting for more than one-third of the number of bird species in the country.

Zhong Yuqian, a researcher at the Wildlife Conservation Station of the Forestry Bureau of Jiangsu Province, said that from the perspective of bird migration, the coastal and coastal wetlands of Jiangsu have become an important channel for the migration of migratory birds in Northeast Asia, especially the terminus of the East Asia-Australia migratory bird migration channel, providing an important breeding ground or wintering ground for internationally endangered birds such as red-crowned cranes and black-faced spoonbills. Therefore, for the migration of migratory birds, Jiangsu is a very important "strategic location". Whether it is a winter migratory bird or a summer migratory bird, it is a "distant visitor" for Jiangsu.

"About 4 million migratory birds stop in Jiangsu every year, and the data of the second national terrestrial wildlife resources survey shows that the species and number of migratory birds migrating in Jiangsu have risen steadily over the years, especially the number of star species such as cranes and spoon-billed sandpipers [yù] is growing."
In order to enhance the awareness of Nanjing citizens on the care and protection of birds, during this year's Bird Love Week, the organizers organized a total of 33 online and offline activities including the "Aurora Cup" Migratory Bird Photography Story Contest, the third "Aurora Cup" ecological forum, the Bird Love Week series of science popularization activities, and the zoo series of on-site activities.

Starting from April 20, the highlight of Bird Love Week, the third "Aurora Cup" Urban Bird Watching Competition, will soon start, and the public can follow 50 professional "bird friends" to watch birds, and may have unexpected discoveries - 126 bird species were recorded in the 20 hours of the first Nanjing City Bird Watching Competition in 2017, including the internationally endangered bird species yellow-breasted bunting, the fringed sandpiper [yù] rarely seen in Nanjing in April, and the Aurora crows and finches known as the "pandas in birds" were found and recorded; the second "Aurora Cup" in 2018 was found and recorded. The Nanjing City Bird Watching Competition welcomed a total of 80 professional and non-professional bird friends in the province, and a total of 118 bird species were recorded in the 1-day race, and the great hama sandpiper [yù], the white-fronted tern and the ordinary buzzard were rated as the supreme bird species of the bird watching competition.

"Considering the protection of birds, this year's focus is on the Purple Mountain, Liuhe Wetland, Yuzui Park and other bird watching sites suitable for announcement in Nanjing, and carry out a 24-hour concentrated observation of birds to statistically understand the dynamics of local birds in Nanjing." How rich are the bird species in Nanjing, and have the birds over Nanjing changed? I believe that through this bird watching competition, everyone will find more surprises. Shen Zhijun, director of the Hongshan Forest Zoo, said.
Go, watch the birds go
What kind of fun is bird watching?
"Meet the people you meet among thousands of people." Xin Yi, a judge of the first "Aurora Cup" Urban Bird Watching Invitational Competition and a "big coffee" of Nanjing bird watching, replied with a sentence about Zhang Ailing's description of fate.
▲Tassel sandpiper [yù]
Since starting bird watching in 2006, Xin Yi has spent more than 1,000 rest days in 11 years, either bird watching or on the road. Her footprints have spread almost all over the country, and she has personally witnessed nearly a thousand bird species, and there are about 1,400 recorded bird species in the country.
▲ Red-headed long-tailed
The first pleasure of bird watching was that it made her reacquaint herself with her hometown. After becoming a "birdwatcher", Xin Yi just returned to his hometown in Lishui, and he was always a little surprised: "Did the birds wear 'invisibility clothes' before?" Why am I never paying attention to them so brightly colored and so loud in front of me? ”
From bird watching "rookie" to bird watching "big coffee", Xin Yi flipped through a copy of the "Chinese Bird Field Manual" in his hand, and also bought a variety of pictures published at home and abroad to study. "During the day, bird watching write down, take pictures, go home at night and look at it over and over again, what is this bird, what are the characteristics of the body, what is the sound, after seeing it, go out again the next day... After so many years of repetition, it can be regarded as getting out of the initial stage of bird watching. ”
▲ Ordinary buzzard
At the "advanced" stage, Xin Yi is "new", that is, increasing the number of individual eyewitness birds and beginning the "flash bird" process of chasing birds. Over the years, her "flashing bird" has succeeded and failed, but every time she chases birds, she is close to nature, successfully "plus new" happy, and failed to see the flowers, birds, insects, fish, trees and forests in nature, and is also happy.
A few years ago, the total population distribution in the eastern region of China may not exceed 100 curly-feathered pelicans appeared along the coast of Lianyungang, and when they learned from bird friends that this bird appeared, Xin Yi could not sit still. She took a bus to Lianyungang, but the car broke down on the road.
▲Curly-winged pelican [tí hú]
"The curly pelican is very small in China and can only be seen during the annual migration season, and if you miss this time, you don't know when you will see it." Xin Yi said. She urged the driver to temporarily help her find a car to continue to Lianyungang, and then rushed to the beach with the help of local bird friends, at this time the tide was gradually receding, and all she could see through the telescope was the "back shadow" of the curly-feathered pelican drifting farther and farther.
"Oh, it's really good-looking, although it's just a 'back'... You've always wanted to see some kind of bird, and when you finally see it, you're especially happy! ”
▲ Red-billed blue magpie
For more and more people to join the bird watching army, Xin Yi is both happy and nervous: "Everyone wants to 'bird watching', not 'guan bird'. "It is the nature of the bird to live independently and return to nature. In the spring, citizens often find chicks under trees on the street, so don't panic and take it away, because maybe it is learning to fly, and its parents are watching. What to do at this moment is to look around more, and the best way is to put it back in the nest. If it is really a lost bird, after taking it home, don't let it rely on you, and release it back to nature is the purpose of rescue.
There are hundreds of active bird watchers in Nanjing today, and for them, the encounter with each bird is worth cherishing, because you may only have one side of it in your life.
Do you see birds?
For the citizens of Nanjing, the spring sky is particularly worth looking forward to, and more than 100 kinds of migratory birds will stage a "migration drama" over Nanjing, showing a different wonderful.
It is often said that swallows are the first "messengers of spring" to fly, but in fact, the summer migratory bird gray-headed wheat chicken is the real "vanguard army". Xin Yi introduced that this global endangered bird species came earlier than the swallow.
▲ Swallows
In the spring, there are many traveling birds in Nanjing, and they quickly continue to move forward after a short rest. For example, the blue-throated singing plover, this bird generally breeds in Xinjiang, Nanjing is only its short rest place, in addition to the white-browed duck, red-breasted eagle and other birds have also appeared. "For fear of being preyed upon, these birds migrate at night." Xin Yi said that every year before the arrival of spring, when migratory birds choose their mates, they will change into beautiful wedding feathers to prepare for breeding and long-distance migration.
▲Red-breasted Hime[wēng]
In April, migratory birds appear in clusters, and in Nanjing, there are cuckoos, yellow orioles, shou belts and various herons. Of these summer migratory birds, two are relatively rare. When it comes to the bird species that bird friends are most looking forward to, we have to say that the fairy eight-colored bird (also known as the eight-colored bird), it is colorful in color, has a noble status in the bird world, and belongs to the "global limited" level of VIP. The FairyBird has been identified as a globally endangered bird and a national second-class protected animal. Although the Yangtze River Delta region is its breeding ground, it is only recorded in Nanjing, and bird friends have only found 10 sporadically over the years!

Another kind of relatively rare is the pheasant that can "Ling Bo microstep". Pheasant is currently rare in number and is a national second-class conservation bird. It is petite, weighing only about four or two, but it has a pair of larger feet than the body, which can reduce the pressure on the water surface and allow it to move freely on the floating water plants. Bird experts call it the most beautiful bird in freshwater wetlands.

Among the summer migratory birds in Nanjing, there is a bird that is about to appear, that is, the cuckoo, although it is a summer migratory bird, it can only be seen in Nanjing in summer, but the rhododendron family is complete, and other cities cannot compete with Nanjing. If you go to Laoshan and Purple Mountain in summer, you can "hear" the big cuckoo, the small cuckoo, the middle cuckoo, the four-voiced cuckoo, the brown-bellied cuckoo, the noisy cuckoo, the eagle cuckoo, and the red-winged crested cuckoo.

You can see the swallows return in the spring
Watch them nest in mud under the eaves
Hear the cuckoo "cuckoo cuckoo"
Say this to kids these days
In their minds, it can only be an abstract concept
Why not take advantage of this Bird Love Week
Take your child to experience some rare knowledge
