There is a serious misconception in the etude-based learning method: the form of learning is mistaken for the goal itself.
The starting point of not denying the teacher should be good, but the teacher overemphasizes the traditional training method. The essence of adult playing the piano is for pleasure and relaxation, not for competition, examination and performance, without energy and time, without need and should not be studied in a closely professional way.

The goal of our piano learning should be what level we want to achieve, what kind of knowledge we have gained, and what kind of music we want to learn. But in fact, we often think that learning to play the piano is to brush books, and every time we return to class, we want to raise the number of the tracks of Hanon, Baier, and Cherniery a few more, as if it were an exercise book as a student.
Although such a model can achieve certain achievements, it may be caused by boring exercises, decreasing interests, unclear goals, doubts about themselves, and so on. It may also be that on the way to learn the piano, a large number of people give up halfway.
You should first understand that the music and etude are contained, the etude is auxiliary, and the music contains all the knowledge of the etude, take Hanon, it is almost everyone in the country who learns piano has played the finger practice, but simply according to Hanon's score practice, plus a lot of repetition, both waste of time, the efficiency is very low.
And this kind of a lot of exercises that don't require much use of the brain can easily bring a lot of other reactions. Hanon's ideas had been largely obsolete in Western Europe, and even many Europeans had not heard of them.
Since the composition and the etude are contained, can we directly replace some etudes with the music?

A little observation will reveal that their rhythm and interval relationship are similar, so why would you spend double the time practicing the same thing?
And the musicality of the music and the color of the harmony are more abundant, completing a piece of music is also your ultimate goal, or emphasize again do not take the form of learning as the goal itself, in the adult world time is money, efficiency first words presumably do not need to be repeated.
It is not that the etude does not need to be practiced at all, but for adults its priority level is not as high as the music, Hanon can of course practice, but with a variety of methods, such as different touch keys, different rhythms, transpositions, etc., for example, you can practice ten minutes before the music, find a phrase similar to the difficulty of the song to practice, do not "the first 31 articles play every day from beginning to end", of course, this method can also be used as other etudes. The foundation is important, but it's just a different way to get it from the music.
Understand your own needs, rather than blindly follow the teacher to learn, communicate with the teacher more, let him understand your inner thoughts, the purpose of your piano learning, in order to help you develop a suitable study plan, you can start from simple and good music, whether classical or popular, or other styles.
General traditional piano teaching is not targeted for adults, and many times children's pedagogy will be applied to adults. But adults can't learn the piano like children, and have more than ten years to slowly hone it.
Adults pay attention to the fact that in a relatively short period of time, the desire to express music can be achieved through the piano, and if adults are taught and trained like children, it is conceivable that few people can persist.
The fact that adults learn the piano is too "mechanized" not only limits the purpose of playing the piano narrowly to the training and display of playing techniques, but also artificially erects a wall to prevent the public from approaching the piano.
