A man in New Zealand found his girlfriend dead in a hot spring pool while they were celebrating a romantic trip for his birthday. Britain's Daily Mail reported on July 5 that autopsy reports showed that in March this year, 67-year-old Christchurch woman Deborah Jeanne Long was found lying in the hot spring pool.

Pathologist Dr Sage did an autopsy and confirmed that the 67-year-old had a blood alcohol content of 245 milligrams per 100 milliliters, almost five times the legal upper limit for a new Zealand driver over the age of 20, who died of a heart attack.
Coroner Anna Tarton wrote that Ms. Long died of "functional cardiovascular failure due to alcoholism, as well as soaking in hot spring pools against the background of hypertensive heart disease".
Dr. Sage said in the report, "Sudden death or complete immersion in water resulting in body collapse is indistinguishable from drowning, which is a recognized risk of using thermal pools."
