Alois Zwingch: Public-private partnerships can help address the digital divide

Alois Zwinggi, executive director of the World Economic Forum and head of the Global Cybersecurity Center, believes that 5G and artificial intelligence are the two keys to the future development of science and technology, and in the next period of time, the development of 5G technology will be faster and faster, and the application of artificial intelligence will be more and more.

Beijing News: In the 5G era, what kind of opportunities are enterprises facing?

Alois Zwingch: The development of 5G technology will make data processing faster, which will allow companies to launch more new products and services for mobile phone users, and I think this is their biggest opportunity.

Beijing News: What stage is the current development of the global digital economy?

Alois Zwingch: I've always thought it's hard to anticipate the future, so it's not easy to figure out what the situation is in now. However, it is clear that in the field of digital economy, there are many opportunities and many obstacles. For example, cybersecurity and data still have a lot to solve. But one thing is certain, there will be many new forms of digital economy in the future, which we cannot predict at the moment.

Beijing News: For the development of Internet technology, what are you most looking forward to?

Alois Zwingch: I think what I'm most looking forward to at the moment is the development of 5G technology. In addition, I think the application of artificial intelligence will also increase. If we look a little further, for example, 10 years from now, I think we probably have to consider what changes quantum computing will bring to the Internet.

Beijing News: With the development of Internet technology, a problem that cannot be ignored is the resulting digital divide. The digital divide between developing and less developed countries is the most serious. How do you think this problem should be solved?

Alois Zwingch: In the face of this problem, I think it is very important to cooperate between the public and private sectors, and both the public sector and the private sector should play their part. Because the public sector may not have enough funding to address this problem, but the private sector has enough money but lacks regulation. Cooperation between the public and private sectors is therefore needed to better contribute to the resolution of this problem.

Beijing News: Which technologies are you more optimistic about playing a role in maintaining network security?

Alois Zwingch: The most critical technologies for cybersecurity in the future are artificial intelligence and 5G. Artificial intelligence and complex machine learning models have begun to be exploited at scale in enterprises. Given the need for businesses to protect against thousands of alerts and threats, AI-driven solutions are critical to enhancing the ability to detect and correct threats.
