A few days ago, The Lu's small tree frog was first found in the Qi'ao-Dangan Island Provincial Nature Reserve in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, which is the smallest frog in China and the first time in Guangdong.
The Loh tree frog belongs to the frog family, Tree frog family, endemic to China, and the model origin is Hong Kong. It inhabits shrubland or grassland in and around submerged puddles under seaside caves. The species is nocturnal, hiding in trees or dead leaf bottoms during the day, preying on termites or other small insects. From the beginning of March to September each year, the male attracts the female frog with a unique and loud courtship sound similar to the cricket whistling. Female frogs spawn on plants or stones in fish-free turbulence or stationary water, numbering about 120. Tadpoles are brown, transparent at the tail, with brown dots on them, and metamorphosis is completed in about 4-6 weeks.
According to the staff of the reserve, in order to strengthen the monitoring of biodiversity in the reserve, in August this year, the staff of the reserve went to Dangan Island and Erzhou Island to carry out the island-wide infrared camera grid layout and amphibian reptile sample line survey, and was pleasantly surprised to find the Small Tree Frog of Lu's during the field investigation.
"Frogs are one of the key targets of this sample line survey, we found that the Lu's small tree frog is in a humid habitat with streams, at that time heard a more unique call, and saw that its jumping ability is relatively strong, visual jump height of about 10cm, the distance is nearly 50cm, you know, Lu's small tree frog is only 1-2cm long." The staff said this when talking about the discovery of the Little Tree Frog of Lu's.
At present, in China, the Loh tree frog is only found on the islands of Lamma, Tai Hao and Putai in Hong Kong, as well as in Guangxi's 100,000 Dashan and Hainan Wuzhishan, and was listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2004 and protected by Chapter 170 of the Wildlife Conservation Ordinance. The discovery of the Lu small tree frog fills the geographical gap in its distribution in Guangdong Province, and provides new data for the distribution and habitat research of the tree frog family.
Guangdong Zhuhai Qi'ao-Dangan Island Provincial Nature Reserve is distributed in Zhuhai Qi'ao Island, Dangan Island, Erzhou Island and related sea areas, composed of Qi'ao Mangrove Forest Reserve and Dangan Macaque Nature Reserve, which is the habitat of many rare and endangered wild animals and plants. In recent years, the protected area has taken many measures to promote biodiversity conservation, not only jointly with the village and the army to carry out joint construction and co-management, carry out a series of protection and rescue and publicity work, but also focus on improving the guarantee of hardware facilities, deploying infrared cameras, establishing forest resources monitoring centers, and promoting biodiversity monitoring and investigation.
At the same time, the reserve also cooperates with scientific research institutions to carry out plant scientific investigation, amphibian and reptile sample line survey, macaque and other terrestrial vertebrate scientific investigation and other work, effectively improving the management level of the reserve and providing data support for the formulation of scientific and effective conservation policies and measures.
