Beijing's Eagle

As the weather cooled, new guests arrived in the woods of Beijing Park. Unlike the willow warblers, who like to sneak around for a moment, these little guests are more generous, they usually stand on top of the branches of the trees, let people appreciate it generously, and even if they fly, they will quickly return to their original places. They are the Grebe, a type of bird that is "friendly" to birdwatchers.

With the progress of research, some birds that were originally thought to be partridges, such as the stork, the howling plover, the red-tailed plover, etc., are now also classified into the family of the wren, so that the world's owl adds up to 335 species, and there are 31 species in Beijing. However, when we talk about cranes now, we usually refer to birds with large flattened mouths, wide beak bases, and long pointed wings, which is the most traditional bird. They often prey on insects in the air, so in English, their name is flycatcher, which, if translated directly, is "flycatcher". In order to facilitate the catching of flying insects, they have a lot of "whiskers" around their mouths. These "whiskers" are specialized feathers that act like a net of insects, allowing more insects to be carried into the large mouth of the dove, making the hunt more efficient.

Northern Grey Wren

Among the birds in Beijing, there are three species of brown clothing, namely the northern gray grebe, the blackbird and the gray-striped grebe, all of which belong to the genus and are the most favorite to stand on the treetops. Among these three, the northern gray wren is the most numerous, they have a clean chest, there is no line, the eyes appear particularly large, so in some places in the north, the northern gray wagtail is called "big eyes and mouths" by the people, which is a vivid image. Every year in early May and at the end of August, they come to Beijing and rest on the dead branches of some broad-leaved trees, sometimes singing at the top of the trees. Compared with the northern gray wren, the other two are rarer, one of which has many clear longitudinal stripes on the chest, called gray striped owl, and the other is more blurred, called the black wren.

Squid

In addition to the three brothers of the genus, there is another type of large family of birds that often appears in Beijing, which is the Ji Que. Unlike birds of the genus Grebe, the color of the birds is generally brighter, and the male and female are different. Among these birds, the most common is the red-throated harrier, they prefer the lower bushes, the male throat is orange-red, the female although the throat is not red, but also has a unique sign, that is, their tail is black, the outermost tail feather base is white, and the tail is still slightly shaking when it stops.

Red-throated Grebe

White-browed grebes are another common species, their color can be described as stunning: black head, back and tail, white eyebrows, and a very eye-catching bright yellow waist and abdomen, can be regarded as a light in the northern forest, their female birds although the color is duller, but whenever the wings are spread, they can also reveal a bright yellow waist, which also earns them the common name of "duck egg yolk".

White-browed Grebe

Another species worth mentioning is the green-backed grebe, which is found in the Zunhua-Xinglong area near Beijing, which has long been regarded as a subspecies of the Tanglin subspecies of the yellow-browed grebe, and more than a decade ago, researchers found a strange, yellow-green grebe in Xiaolongmen, southwest of Beijing, believing that they were a new species, and named it "Beijing Grebe", and subsequent studies confirmed that this was nothing more than a juvenile male of the Tanglin subspecies of the Yellow-browed Grebe. Although they were brutally beaten in the face, the research at that time accumulated a large amount of data and information, and finally confirmed that the Tanglin subspecies should be a separate species, because their backs are yellow-green, so they are named green-backed jibirds. This can also be regarded as the inextricable connection between this little guy and Beijing.
