People's Daily Tianjin Window, June 10, 2016 Recently, when the Tianjin Donggang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau quarantined a batch of empty containers entering Indonesia, it found that there were many pieces of gasket wood in a container that had not been dismantled, all of which had no IPPC identification, and one of the gaskets had bark and multiple worm holes. Quarantine personnel took samples and brought them back for autopsy, and found a live beetle under the bark, which was identified by the laboratory as a spruce eight-toothed beetle, which was the first time that the Tianjin port intercepted this type of pest in an empty box in the entry.
Spruce eight-toothed beetle belongs to the genus Coleoptera, which is a borer moth that seriously harms fir trees, and is one of the dangerous harmful organisms in forestry published in China. It mainly harms coniferous tree species such as red-skinned spruce, Qinghai spruce and fir, resulting in a large number of deaths of host trees. Because the insect body is small and difficult to detect, it is very easy to spread with the transfer of seedlings, wood and wood packaging. The Donggang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has supervised the destruction of the wooden packaging carrying the epidemic situation in accordance with the law. (Correspondent Wei Jinyan)
